Import Question: Barrel length? 4" or 4.2"?

I'm having trouble finding a revolver in Canada. So, I thought maybe I could use irunguns to import for me. I see a lot of s&w 586 4" revolvers on gunbroker.com. Does the barrel length have to be a minimum of 4.2" to be imported? I don't have a prohibited license.

Not sure what the exact number is I think it's around 106mm minimum length

4.2 inches to be restricted. Anything less and its a prohib.

This countries government works in metric. If it's 105.5mm they will round it up. Example being HK P7's

Sadly the adds and owners of those guns likely won't measure accurately enough for us. And even if they do the fact that the manufacturer's specs say it's "4" means it stays as "4" until proven otherwise. But then you can't import it due to the spec to prove that it is longer.

Kooner, not only can you NOT own a prohib length gun they cannot be imported either. As I understand it even someone with a 12-6 cannot import a prohib spec gun. What was in the country when the law was passed and came into effect is all we have for now and evermore.

If you're having trouble finding a revolver that is already in Canada then you are either not trying very hard or you are looking for something that is very specific. There are lots to be found at the dealers at the top of the page and I'm sure the non sponsoring dealers have a goodly number as well. Every shop I visit here in the lower mainland has at least a few revolvers. And most have a pretty nice selection of calibers and styles.

If the barrel doesn't satisfy the minimum length requirement, you couldn't import it regardless of whether you are grandfathered for 12(6).

Unless, of course you're the government which can import anything it wants. All the Beretta PX-4 pistols that CBSA officers carry are prohibs and were imported long after C-68 passed. Two rules...one for the government and one for the peasants (us).
