Importing a barrel

I have found my dream barrel for my Ruger 10/22 : it is an 18", blued, M4 style barrel. It is sold by Brownell's. The problem is I need to find someone here in Canada that is licence to import it for me (the seller is licence to export it). Does anyone know of a company that is licenced to import .22 cal barrels? I have tried several site sponsors, to no avail.

I think you just order it, then Brownells emails you the ITAR end user agreement, send it back and you are good to go. I got a few things from them like that....was no big deal.
 
With barrels, my understanding is you need to fill out alot of itar paperwork. This takes 6-8 weeks form what I've read. However I've never done it so it's only here say.

If you end up getting the barrel from Brownell's please let us know how the process goes. I've been eyeing an M1 barrel they sell, but wasn't sure if they would send one up here!
 
I ordered a RRA 2 stage trigger for my AR15 from Brownells, they sent me the DSP-83 form to complete and that's it....shipped the same day.
 
Barrels are one of the specific firearm parts that need extra paperwork. Frames are another for example.

I suggest you call Brownells and discuss the requirements with their international export experts. You will likely have to get some Canadian specific paperwork but it is doable. You will not find 'someone with an import license' because that really doesn't exist if I'm not mistaken.

Brownells' staff should be able to tell you all you need to do. Then you just have to go do it all.

It's not an importing issue. It's an exporting issue. Brownell's won't ship it as barrel require the U.S. Dept of State's export permit, regardless of what firearm the barrel is to go on. Our side only cares about collecting the taxes.
 
I friend of mine was able to export that exact 10/22 bbl. He did it through Brownells. He had to fill out a few forms, and it did get to Canada eventually. Though they just shipped it in a box with the rest of his order, and the end of the bbl was poking out of the cardboard by the time it arrived....

I'm in the process of getting a barrel from Brownells, not that bad really. It will seem like a big PITA when all the forms arrive, but it's actually pretty easy. I'd estimate that it will take me less than ten minutes of effort next time around, now that I know what goes where.

Barrels are indeed one of the specific firearm parts that are subject to "extra" export restriction from the USA (different from the AR trigger above, which just requires the DSP83).
 
Aye. Unless it has changed recently (again!) then you do need an import permit, available free. It is not required by the Canadian Gov't, it is required by the US Gov't before they will grant the export permit. Repeat. It is so that the US side will grant the Export Permit there!. Memorize that! :) Foolish yes, but ...If you really want it, you'll do it.

What no yellow tape? Customs has opened my last 5 orders from Brownells, even one that only contained some tools.
