importing a gun and bringing it back on a plane

can i bring back a antique revolver on the plane in my luggage if i have antique status papers??
or must i post it??
and also what are proper antique status papers. ive a email from the antique firearms lot in the polie saying its antique , is this enough?

i see nothing....... in "stickys" this is normal practice. in other countries where antique guns are antiques........ .. so i would have prsumed it is the same here as a antique gun is not a "firearms" and can be owned by anyone ..... then as long as it is not loaded,, once could bring it with their other items in the hold of the plane so long as the flight crew are informed and that is passed on to the customs........
with firearms .. and a gun license it is like this.. and i cant see it being different with a non firearm classed gun..

these antique items are mijical and have some power that is stopping them from being loaded onto planes?
 
I'd trigger lock it and put it in a locked case along with several copies of the antique status papers...............expect a delay but should be ok don't bring ammo unless it's locked up in a seperate container.............Harold

Stateside, all BP firearms, whether they're percussion lock or flintlock, vintage or reproduction, are considered to be antiques. Up here, replica percussion lock long guns are not antiques. A real percussion lock made before 1898, is an antique.
BP handguns have their own rules. You can't carry or shoot one just any place either.
You need to learn Canadian laws before you buy anything. Read this for antiques.

??? no , a antique gun in the classe of a antique as is required by law in canada.. hence me having antique status papers.... not such fish in the u.s.
 
Ok, but the stickies tell you the rules for the transport and importation of antique handguns. Follow them and you should be fine.
I have to think (as I read your original post and I'm sorry if I got the wrong impression) that if you try to enter an international airport and board a plane, in the post 911 era, with simply putting a handgun in your luggage, (as your question suggests), antique papers or not, you are setting yourself up for a fall. That is to say, if you are looking for confrontation and pressing the edges of the legal envelope, you have picked a very dangerous way to do it. People get tazered to death in airports these days for much less than showing up with an unannounced handgun. Part of the responsibility of owning firearms is having some common sence. Endangering yourself and everyone around you by simply arriving at an international airport with a gun in you luggage and some Antique papers (that even LEO don't understand nor believe, never mind airport security), is in my opinion, irresponsible and dangerous, to say the least.
It is also a very good way to raise the profile of Antique status of certain firearms, for the general public, so the fearmongering antis can target them next for banning. I have to hope this is not your intention.
 
hey pete04 , hahahahaha oh man come on. in the cabin in my carryon luggage?? well in my original post it dosnt say that so. it is hard to think why i would ever want to do this....... :) ive been around the world a few times now and have never been on any airline that allowed you to take a gun with you in the cabin.. antique or not..

mate . last time i checked.. all the large american and european airports... have a special little desk ...where one "checks in dangerous goods.. guns.. ammunition..and other weapons of a restricted nature" .. there the nice officer will check your item and your documents,your flight details and approve your item to be loaded onto the plane along with papers and a special tag...... ive done this with guns.... that aint antiques.. and bullets... and it seemed to go very smoothly.. in the past..


i do recall being told back in the 60s Qantas allowed people to bring their gun on board in the cabin if they unloaded it and gave the gun to the pilot... or gave him the bolt... but thats before my time..

nessy357...yeah id check the airline. but i think they are all quite the same on the rules with these things , i know for hunting ammo and rifles it is about the same for most airlines. the make the rules depending on the laws from your local destination..

anyway.. back to it.. has anyone taken a antique gun in the luggage and imported it?
as a registered firearm.. i think causes less problems.. i mean... it is already in your possession.. and the know what it is..
but an antique . i think.. it can cause some confusion on the canadian side.. as i think they might not know there is such a thing the customs officers.. and they might think i was being cunning and actualy had a modern gun.. but im not sure.
maybe they have more information about the laws and would be able to process it without trouble..
 
why not just mail it and save the hassel.
ive never lost one outa 100s shipped priority international or express mail.

i know one fellow who brought a webley MKI in 455 thru and Airport in his luggage.
He had a RCMP letter saying it was Antique.
I think last i heard hes was in GitMo but maby been sent to syria now :D














... He never had Any trobles at all they Waved him on thru! because he wasnt sneaky by Nature or condesending. ;)

but i think ill just bring it in my hand luggage loaded then, seems like thats a good idea. avoid the hassle and all...
