Importing a mount from Canada to Europe. What mount? Which shop?

I finally got the license for my m-305 approved!

It will be another month before I get it though, since I'm in the middle of a move and my gun safe is still in the other end of the country. I'm going to try and get as much of the must-have accessories before she gets here to get the most fun out of it the fastest possible.

The mags I wont be buying from Canada, obviously :p, but I hope to be able to order the mount from a Canadian retailer.

I think what I'm looking for is a Sadlak mount, steel or titanium. Does anyone know where to get these from Canada?

What I'm trying to avoid is the fked up US export laws.

Thank you!

And thanks to the forum for helping me out with advice when I first started looking for a Norinco!

Well then, what do I need when to pick a mount? I will be at least 1 international border from a competent m14 smith so I must be able to mount it without modifying my receiver in any complex way. It also must be 100% capable of holding zero - this might be my number one hunting rifle and I will not accept spending a single night tracking a wounded deer because I saved a hundred bucks on the mount. My third point is the weight of the mount.

1. Mountable without help from a smith
2. Zero
3. Weight
4. Price

So far I've heard a lot of good things about the sadlak. I'm thinking the sadlak steel mount will handle points 1 and 2 with glory, handle point 3 ok and well... I'm a student but I still believe in the "cry once" - theory.

Are there any different versions or marks I should look out for? What's a good price?

Right now my M14s is wearing a B-Square mount and I was planning on upgrading even though it seems to be doing fine.

I was planning on the Steel Sadlak from Fabsports, but it seems like Fabsports doesn't have it on their website anymore.

Wolverine Supplies seems to carry the ARMS 18 but they have no price on it. I guess you could contact them and get a quote. Personally I wish they'd just put a price on the site.

As for #3, weight, I would give up on that as soon as possible. You wanted an M14 to hunt and I don't blame you because I like to hunt with mine, but it is not a lightweight rifle. I really don't think I'd spend $100 more on a mount just to save a few ounces, but that's just me, I've accepted that my M14 is a big glorious fat lady and when other hunters comment on how much it weighs, I just say "Yes, but I'll never ask you to carry it." :D

Don't know if you saw it, but check out this thread.

The last page seems to have the most current info. Basically it seems to boil down between the Sadlak and the ARMS18. Lots of guys like both, only one seems to be available in Canada right now. But if that ARMS was really pricey, I'd consider getting a steel Sadlak from Brownells. <-- (Does this fall within the export ban?)

Good luck getting your rig together and I hope you get a deer with it. It can't be easy sourcing all this stuff from another country. :)

I'm studying the rules but as far as I understand you can get some parts like magazines as long as the value does not exceed 100USD. What I mean by point 3 is that if someone recommends a steel tri-rail I might turn that down - no need to make it worse.

I got a pm from a guy from fabsports stating that the sadlak mount will be availible again within a week or so. I can wait that long to order the mount, no problem. Meanwhile I'm calculating shipping costs+customs+fees for US mags vs overpriced german mags.

Thanks for your replies, I'll post in this thread again as soon as there is any development.

Why spend 200$ on a mount for a 300$ rifle...

It's not rocket science to make a mount these days. Any CNC machine would cut it.

My 2 cents.

In Sweden it's a 1400$ rifle ;)

Edit: I'm waiting for a reply from wolverine regarding international shipping and for fabsports to get mounts in stock. Meanwhile I'll try and see if there is any reason to want one mount over the other.
