How do I go about importing a new rifle from the US. I understand there are
dealers doing that for a fee.

You can import it yourself.
Export from the US is the tricky part. You will need to find a US exporter.

You phone clay at prophet river and pay his fee. Be aware that its not like receiving mail or a parcel from UPS so be prepared to wait a few months.

x2 for Clay he has brought 3 firearms in for me now and I will use him again. He is a sponsor at the top of the page if you want the phone number.

The real question is what do you want and is it available in Canada? If it is available, and is only a couple of hundred more than in the U.S., it's probably better to just get it here. If it's not readily available up here, or the savings are significant (i.e. over $500), then it's probably worth it going through the trouble.

Just search general firearms dicussions OP. this topic is always on there. It will help you out. As much as I know... It can be a pain in the ass.

It's very easy, call Melissa/Clay at Prophet River. Wait a couple weeks to a couple months then check your mail box.

It is a pain, for sure. So much so, we may soon cease imports for clients. When things get a little slow, we are spending a ton of time on the phone answering 'where's my stuff?' Some clients start calling a few days after they buy. We are so busy with the retail side that we are considering ending this service. Of course, there are several other co's that provide this service too. :)

Geez...thanks you lot whom make it tough for the good folks at Prophet River. Everytime I am in Lloyd, I always stop in to look around.

Another good thing possibly spoiled by impatient and pampered f**ktards!!

I didn't mean to make it sound quite like that. :)
Its human nature, especially on the first import to call and check up. Its just that Melissa has 200 a month to do and its a low percentage that call but if we have , say 400 outstanding at a given time and it only takes a small percentage calling each day t totally clog up melissa's time. Its not unexpected and i don't really blame people its just that we need to consider what makes uur store most efficient. Thanks to all for continued support.

I have bought 2 rifles from Cabelas USA. I used Questar and Prophet River.

Great service both times. The buyer has to understand that it's a slow process due to the red tape. Both transactions took about 6 months start to finish.

Clay - sounds like you need to hire another staff member!

I've got a couple from Prophet River, rather give my fees to someone in Canada at least and they're excellent.

Yup, Clay and Melissa are great to work with. I'd soon give them my money to import a rifle than anyone else. The process takes months, but it can be very worthwhile, and PR does a great job. Now that the requirement to register is done away with, the process may be a bit more streamlined.

People now days have little understanding for a Firearms retailer and importer. Canada is vey small I regards to market size, and the people that provide excellent performance like Prophet River get beat up by the instant gratification crowd that fails to understand that neither government wants to stream line these processes.
You have a couple months to day dream. Enjoy it!

Clay, please don't cease the import service at least until after christmas!
Mel Forbes has a Model 20 coming my way and you are who he recommended to call to get it here.
I promise not to hassle you ;)
