It is painless and easy, no disrespect to our supporting dealers on this page but sometimes something comes up down south that you cannot obtain here in canada.

so just how easy is it? so simple it hurts, firstly find an optic that tickles your fancy and make contact with the seller, explain to him that you are in canada but you're interested in buying a scope and having it shipped to Prophet River Firearms USA FFL dealer Leroy in Montana. If they agree that they can and will do that then make the purchase and ask for the serial number of the scope and a tracking number of the package.

Go to Prophet River Firearms page and click on the importing a firearm link, here you can import barrels and optics for $50.oo per item, in the notes part of the form include the make and model of the scope as well as the serial number and submit the form, then sit and wait.

The great folks at Prophet River will take care of your import permit and export permit and get your scope shipped up to their store, after it arrives in canada they will contact you for payment and for the shipping to get it out to your location.

So really how could it get any easier??

With our new dollar it may not be practical, however when you can't get something in canada or stumble on a clearance sale stateside the added expenses of double shipping charges and a import fee may still work out in your favor, so shop wisely and count your pennies

Sounds pretty stupid easy to me.

Too bad for the sh!tty CDN dollar...

just shop carefully with our current "normal" dollar

I got a smoking deal for 2 reasons, someone owed me a couple favours that I cashed in on one purchase, and no one in canada had anything close to this in stock

Understand that if something goes wrong with the scope, you may have to work through some paper to get it to the USA and back for repairs. As long as it was legally shipped out of the USA is one thing...if not..well that is a different story.

I purchased a scope and had it shipped to U.S. Address in Niagara Falls, New York. This is a company that provides Canadians an address to ship to. I went and picked it up and drove back. Canada border guard didn't even make me go pay tax.

Its the US border guys you need to worry about for as its illegal to export scopes without the proper permits.

Exactly. Have to be careful with ITAR rules. Good general rule to follow is that if it is part of (gun parts, magazines, sights or.optics )or fires from (bullets, brass , powder and primers etc) a firearm then you need to have it come to Canada through proper export. Hand tools such as cleaning agents, presses, dies etc are okay but need duty paid. I think musket stocks and black powder stuff are exempt but someone in the knowledge can correct me.

Thanks for posting this... sometimes the US has stuff we don't. Does anyone know if SWFA scopes are importable?
Call SWFA and see what happens..

Back in early Nov. 2015 I tried importing a few of their scopes through a Canadian importer (all legal like) and when the importer called SWFA they flew off the handle and went into a rage!

Maybe they have changed their policy since then, but I doubt it..

ITAR requires both the manufacturer and the exporter to be registered with the US State Department. Both have to pay to be registered.

AFAIK, SWFA is NOT registered with the SD, so their items MAY NOT be legally exported under ITAR, even by a registered exporter (like Brownells)...
