Importing Boyds Stocks

DThunter, that's the prairie hunter right ? I was thinking of the getting the same for a Savage, right down to the checkering, Reminds of the checkering on a Sako 85 Laminate.

A curious thought

^^ WOW!

Now that's a nice stock! After seeing how good the checkering looks on your stock I am disappointed that it wasn't an option on the one that I ordered... I've got the Varmint Thumbhole coming for my Savage Model 12, but the only options were the upgraded recoil pad and the laser etching of the designs...

I'll post some pictures when it arrives though!

I wonder if a customer could send thier stocks back to the factory for these upgrades? Now that the limit is higher.
Just a thought.

The checkering texture style is very interesting! It must be cut with a lazer tool.

yes, this is the prairie hunter.

I expected this stock to be a little blockier than it is. (for this dollar value). It has great lines and feel! You don't often get more than you expect/pay for these days! This is certainly one exception!

Boyds stocks can expect me to order a pile more in the future!

Incidently, It took me a while to finish the fine details on the barrel channel. (Free Float with some clearance)

This was in no way a shortcoming of Boyds.

I built the barrel from scratch back in 1995, with a gunsmith friend of mine. Deep hole drilled, reamed, rifled, tapered, threaded, chambered, and head spaced it. This was the first rifle barrel I ever made. An awesome experience/opportunity! It was My first actual custom build, and I did it myself (with the help of my friend of course). the barrel is 26-1/2" long. Why the extra 1/2"? Because I could put my own personal dimension on it I guess. After that, I made a bunch more barrels over the years. I made a 7mm Ultra Mag. Barrel that was 27.284" long as well. (as close as I could anyhow).

The barreled action I put in the Boyds stock has a 1/2" longer Chamber swell and a slightly different primary taper. Ever since I built the rifle, I could never find/decide on a stock style design I could either like, afford, or prioritise the money for. Finally after 18 years, finances and priorities aligned in this rifles/my favor. All in all, when the sawdust settled, I am a very satisfied/happy camper!

I was about time for me to finish that project though LOL!
Too many Irons in the fire!!!

Just in case some one is interested/curious, it is chambered in 25-06 Remington.

That is really nicely done. I like the wood left alone within the stippled checkering. There is the potential for a lot of artistic design in that method.

Well, this thread got me so excited that I've just gone and ordered a Classic Laminate in the Applejack (black and red) pattern with checkering for my Ruger Stainless Hawkeye .260 Rem, and I also ordered the thumbhole stock and forend in the forest camo laminate for my 7600 Carbine .35 Whelen.

Merry Christmas to me.

Sounds awesome! Good for you!

PLEASE post pictures of them when you get them!

It would be nice to see how that apple jack looks with an action mounted in it

Dthunter any chance you weighed that stock? I have a vanguard s2 coming and was thinking hard about that Boyds stock to replace the plastic one.
