Have to shop carefully down there, some things are a decent deal, some are actually cheaper here with the freight factor and exchange built in, most wind up about the same price as here, if they were available up here. It does appear we may be able to get brass and bullets again in the near future, but, it still has to be shipped, you can't be in possession in the US with it, as you can't export it legally, not being a US citizen, which is what you are doing in bringing it to the border. The exemption would be 500.00 US retail, so, a quantity purchase to make it worthwhile, may still be out of reach. Certainly will help with smaller batches of oddball stuff though. Reloading tools are exempt from ITAR, never has been an issue with them. Bought a press, dies, scales, moulds and I'm not sure what else in odds and ends in the last 10 yrs, no issues.

Also, a little off-topic, but since you mentioned brass: I had Lawry's bring me in a box of Starline 500 S&W brass for about 45% less than I could find it anywhere in Canada (plus I live close enough to them that I just picked it up at the factory, so no domestic shipping). They sell Starline anyways so it was just included in another one of their deliveries, so no cost shipping it to Canada. However, and let me be clear that I am a satisfied customer, have nothing but good things to say about them, and don't hold this against them in any way, they only do 3-4 shipments per year and will only group any special orders with those (to keep costs down) so it could be a few months before your order goes in and arrives, and the quote may change slightly depending on the exchange rate and how much time has passed between when they originally quote you and when they actually put an order in.

I found Hornady Custom Grade die sets on sale for $36 USD and free shipping in the US. That's cheaper than Lee in Canada! So I bought six of them to replace some Lee dies. (I like the sliding bullet alignment sleeve and optional micrometer seating adjustment.) If I drive down with an empty gas tank the savings pays for my fuel cost. But I drive a diesel Jetta so your mileage may vary, pun intended.
Would probably need to inquire how those pellets are actually classified. May want to check to see if someone like Brownell's has them of something similar. If they req'd a permit to export previously, you may have to wait. Brownell's has a divisional choice selector setup of what's exportable and what isn't on their site. You may also want to check what the freight is on them, and if who you want to buy from will ship here to start with, assuming they could. Check the weight and USPS freight price as well, and find out if vendor wants to charge a handling charge to ship up here. Not sure what weights pellets are, 100 cans may be too heavy to ship as one package via USPS. It'll say on their website as to max package weight. And if they won't ship USPS, fergit it.

I've heard there are some changes to the ITAR coming into effect March 8. My understanding is that many of the export restrictions will be going away. Worth looking into if you can be patient for another month or so.

yes, I agree..... if you can get them, get them from Canada.... Brownels just has such a big selection.....
I dissagree ... I buy all my reloading components from the US. I have them shipped to my US address and walk them across the border. Even with the 30% exchange on the dollar I am saving 15 - 30% and have never had a problem at customs. I wait for the sales and free hazmat shipping. Saving 10.00 / lb on powder and 15.00 / 1000 on primers makes it worth while for me. Where in Canada can you buy bulk 223 bullets for 50.00 / 1000. It would be nice to shop locally and support the Canadian market but as a consumer I have to go where I get the best deals.
That is all well and good until you have to go through a Homeland Security check station, and then you will lose your goods, get a good lecture, and may e banned from entering the USA for a period.
A previous poster in this thread was cautioned by a mod that promoting illegal activity is against CGN rules. Caution.
If you’re not aware, because of ITAR rules you would be in serious trouble I’d stopped on the US side before entering Canada. This has been mentioned here on CGN on a continuous basis.
I try, whenever possible, to shop locally (Canada).... However, at times I too have shopped online from US, but there was never 30% savings, and almost always, was more expensive than if I could have purchased the products here.... If they are available in Canada, and in stock, I'm wanting to buy locally..... Primers, bullets are covered under ITAR.... My items were not ITAR restricted items... My wife and I travel south each winter, becoming inadmissible to the US because I might have saved a few bucks on illegally transported primers, makes little sense to me and would merely anger my wife...
Even with the changes they are making, going over the border and bringing back restricted components will still be violating US export. Keep doing it and the odds will catch up with you. An alien is not eligible to be in possession of those items in the US, and is not entitled to export them. Your so called sense of entitlement is very likely to bite your own butt one day.
