I've got a cousin in Vegas has a couple Finnish Mosin's he'll sell me for a good deal( still haggling...). Problem is how to get them home legal & registered. I've heard horror stories about this sorta thing. Any suggestions?

Read the first "sticky" Importing Firearms, Ammunition and Parts from the USA in the Legalese Forum under the General Fireams section.

If the bureaucratic hassle and added extra expenses are worth your while, that is the legal method involved.

My suggestion to you is to buy all the Finnish or Finn captured rifles here in Canada. They are quite available, reasonably priced, and don't have the importation banners stamped into the receiver or barrels.

Here in Ontario, the Collector's Source, Ellwood Epps and local gunshows are great sources for Finnish firearms.

Check out: http://7.62x54r.net/ and http://www.mosinnagant.net/default.asp

Best on line source for info and specs on these rifles.

Easy way is to pre register the rifles so when they get here they are already in the system. Hard part is for your cousin to export them legally from the USA, he will need to talk to BATF about that.

Latest licence fees for exporting rifles from the US run $750 a gun...not worth it unless it's a pretty high end item and a pretty good deal.

Basically forget it.

You will need to check this, but I think there was and may still be a couple of exemptions from this stupid law. One of the exemptions (was and still maybe) that a relative in the US could applay for a one time exemption to export firearms to a relative in Canada.

Get your cousin to check the tangs on them, possibility that they could be antiques in the states (1898 or older) and no atf exportation problems to worry about.:D
