I'm looking to get a set of hardwood furniture for my Rem 870 Express, I found a site in the US that says it wont export out of the country (problems with customs) Is that US thing only? Is there anything I should know before I buy from somewhere out of country? Any input is appreciated

Exporting parts for firearms out of the US is controlled by the US ITAR and regulated by the US Dept of State for rifles, handguns and non-sporting shotguns (think short shotguns). US Dept of Commerce regulates the export of parts for shotguns plus the export of sights, mounts and rings.

Certain things (most) cannot be exported out of the US without the proper export paperwork issued by either the US DOS or US DOC.

Strangely enough, shotgun stocks do not require export paperwork from the DOC, if I am not mistaken. You should contact Dept of Commerce directly for a proper answer.

Most US vendors have decided to just not export anything firearm related to Canada (i.e. out of the US) to make it easy for themselves. If shotgun stocks are indeed not regulated for export (handgun and rifle stocks are regulated for export - by Dept of State), you might be able to get the vendor to ship your furniture to someone you know in the US for them to export out of the US to you (i.e. stick them in the mail). Note you can only do this if Dept of Comm confirms shotgun stocks do not require an export permit to export.

Best of luck.

Boyds, a large manufacturer of gunstocks, will now export shotgun stocks of any value without restrictions.
If the US business won't export, it is the business' decision, and not becasue of US export restrictions.

thanks for the info, Im new to shooting (in this country) still trying to get a feel for the laws. Ive seen the Boyds site, their stuff looks interesting, though Id be happy with a set of plain-jane Police furniture

The wood furniture comes up regularily on the EE. I bought a few brand new unstained actual remington forend from Numerich, although they may be sold out (Numerich charges $25 surcharge on all international orders though)

Sporter style walnut on the EE, yes. Police-style, not common at all, and even then it's usually at absurd prices. I wish one of our site sponsors would carry that kind of stuff... Numrich has exactly what the OP is looking for. You could buy two or three sets, take the pick of the litter, and sell those you don't want at a reasonable price and still make a decent profit.

You can order from brownells. I recently ordered a mesa tactical urbino stock and a mako railed forend for my 870 from them without any troubles; except I had to pay duties and taxes.
