Good luck finding one right now.
On another note, you wouldn't loose it mid transfer. The U.S. will still allow these rifles to be produced for LE/Export. Plus, any rifles produced before the ban will be grandfathered.
Kind of true... Two years ago I was exporting a Colt M4 Match Target out of the US. The restriction on the export license stated it had to be a post ban configured rifle. Which I complied to. The US State Dept. inspected it and sent it back to the broker because it had 5.56MM on the barrel. It didn't say anything about barrel markings on the license. So when you are exporting anything can happen.
That has to do with export licensing and U.S. DOS export rules. For a long time, they would be very finicky about letting 5.56 marked rifles leave the U.S. due to ITAR. There was no AWB at that time. Plus, the DOS has recently eased up on export restrictions. Basically, any domestic ABW would have little to no effect on rifles destined for export. We saw this during the last AWB where companies would produce AR's specifically for Government/Export use.
One sitting at Target Sports for $1999. as we speak, Why take a chance importing one right now.
The 5.56 markings wasn't an issued when I applied for the permit. It came into affect after. The US State Dept told me that they enforce the current rules, even though my export permit restrictions didn't say any thing. The point I'm trying to made is the US State Dept. changes the rules all the time. Right now they relaxed the rules, but things can change and we can be back to where we were two years ago.
