Importing spoting scope?

I know that you are supposed to have import permits for rifle parts and rifle scopes but does anyone know if you need one for spotting scopes?

By the way I picked up a rifle scope a few weeks ago across the line before I knew you were supposed to have a permit. Coming back across into Canada the guard asked me what I had and I told him. He asked to see my PAL and then waived me thru.

I seriously doubt that there are any issues with spotting scopes - birders buy in the states all the time. Of course, with our dollar where it is, the bargoons are rare.......
