Good day. Anyone know what extra costs I might have to pay in order to get a spotting scope shipped to me from the states? I want to make an order from Camera Land NY but I want to know what to expect from Canadian Custome before I place my order. Anyone with experiance doing this?

Also Fed-ex

They bend you over with customs brokerage fees.

You can also use Fed-ex instead of USPS. The reason to use usps or fed-ex is that they both use canada post for brokerage. something like 5$ or 8.50 vs 50 or 60$ with other carriers.

Also I would also put on package card for pickup!

Are "customs fees" and "customs brokerage fees" two different things? Because I once tried to import a non-scope related item and Canada customs was demanding 80% of the value of the item to release it. $5 and $8 don't sound right.

You can use UPS but you have to specify Air (not sure what their air services are called.... I think with UPS its something like Worldwide saver). Anyway, if it comes by ground, you get brokerage fees up the wazoo, but if it comes by air, the brokerage fees are included in the shipping price which is often not too much more expensive than USPS and alot faster. You'll still pay hst on the item but no brokerage fees.

Do not use a courier period. A friend has imported thousands of items from the US and will only use usps, never never never use ups. Learn from the experience of others. The post is often the fastest safest and by far the cheapest. $35 should be the max for shipping. The online calculators are NOT accurate. Pay actual shipping accurately describe the contents and you are off to the races. I have had two spotters sent that way without issue.

I always broker UPS packages myself.
When he shows up I tell I'll take care of it.
I know the delivery guy well enough now that he only gets half-way up the walk before he asks me if I'm going to do it myself.
