Importing spotting scopes and rangefinders

Does anyone know what the deal is with importing spotting scopes and range finders from the US? Do you have to go through the same hassle as wtih rifle scopes or is it pretty straight forward? Taking a trip and want to know if I can bring some goodies back without filling out paper work til I'm 90.

I thought the export restrictions were limited to items which attached to firearms, thereby suggesting that spotting scopes are ok.

I don't officially know though.

I ordered a KONUS Spotting scope today from the US. Its a store where others on here have said they got Konus spotters before. The girl there told me that it should get through as it would not be marked as firearm related (or something like that). She said sometimes they just send them the stuff back from the border.

She laughed at me when I told her it was for bird watching.

Or maybe it was my ###y voice making her giggly.
