So i was looking to source a sten gun mk3 receiver tube and i found a few american websites that sell 80% receivers. Does anyone know if its legal to import these?

thanks!

Why bother? The casing is standard size tubing, readily available as either DOM mild steel or 4130 Cr-Mo.

DOM - drawn over mandrel. Nice smooth sized tubing. Mild steel, 1018 or so. Cr-Mo - chrome-molybdenum aircraft grade high tensile tubing. Way overkill for a Sten. You can even buy a piece of electrical conduit at Home Depot the correct size.
Look at the listings at aircraftspruce.ca, or metalsupermarkets.ca.
Depending on the breech system you are using, you will need either .056 or .094 wall thickness, IIRC.
Don't even bother starting one of these projects without touching base with the good folks in Ottawa.

would electrical conduit be strong enough?

Yup. It is plated, though.
Few original Stens were made using seamless tubing. Most used seamed tube, or punched blanks rolled and welded. The Mk. III was made from punched, formed, flat stock. Plain, soft mild steel was used. The whole point was to avoid the use of sophisticated alloy steels.
If you have a parts kit, and are planning to make up a semi auto, do contact the RCMP first.

There was a guy here in Sask who used to build transferable stens. I have not seen him for a while but if you could find him he would be the man to speak to.

Why a Mk3? Theere was an very good reason why production was stopped during the war. They took simplification one step too far. Better a Mk2

Oh by the way, my Mk2 parts kit came from Canada years ago. I replaced the missing section with a piece of car exhaust pipe and it works just fine.

Spencer is a great guy who produces a quality product (I just wish they weren't so expensive!). I don't understand a lot of the animosity toward him here, except maybe by those with sten envy. He did what a lot of us wish we could, and succeeded. We should be encouraging people who try to bring us our favorite milsurps in a legal manner.

The 80% thing is a US definition. It has no status here. Export from the US, import into Canada, who knows?

the 80%'s i think as it stands are exportable, but it is import you must watch for. I would contact the CFC, send them pictures of what you want imported , tell them what you will use it for, give them all the details and keep a copy of your sent fax/email. I know i got certain firearm raw receiver stampings imported with CFC permission all fine. Mind you these were FAR from 80%, i had to do a lot of cutting, and welding to make it into something that half resembled what it should be. Then another load of work to make it into what i wanted it to be lol!

As for the sten tube, listen to Tiriaq. It is not worth it to pay for a "tube", because that is just a fancy name for a pipe of correct ID and OD cut to the correct length hahaha. Makes it sound fancier when you ask the big bucks for it when you sell :p. Either way you will end up cutting the slots yourself, if anything i would pay good money for the receiver prints (unless you can find them online to scale for free) and good a bonding adhesive. Nothing is worse than when you start cutting and your cheap adhesive starts to come off and your template peels off of your metal :(...
