**OOPS...I think I should have put this into the rimfire section...my bad...MODS, feel free to move it**

This isn't meant to shill for a company (I have no stake in this company...it's sad I have to even say this stuff!)...I'm just stating how the process went for me as I've had a couple guys PM me about this new startup. I said I'd start a thread to explain how it all went down...so here it is.

Ok...so I've always wanted a Umarex HK MP5 .22LR...but due to our silly laws that bad boy is listed as prohibited. Crap! So, I thought I'd go for my next prize...the HK416. Unfortunately, that is also unobtainium but lo and behold the Umarex HK416 .22LR is only restricted. I can get that...yay! Now the fun starts...no one brings them in. Crap again! But it gets better...we can only have the 10 round mags...thanks to being able to fit the pistol version of the Umarex HK416...not cool, but I can live with it.

So, I start asking around...no one has them. I've heard of BGC back east that can make things nice for guys in Ontario but that won't help here (BC). I make some enquiries to importers...it's not an expensive rifle to begin with but import costs quickly escalate it to pushing $1k. Ok, I'll put this on the back burner...then comes hope.

I read (in a now locked thread) about a company that can import for only $100. I'm intrigued. It's a new company so I'm skeptical. The name of the company is irunguns.ca. I make some enquiries. The answers I get back seem fine. I'm allowed to use my credit card so I feel somewhat better in that I can always dispute the charge if needed. I decide I'll push forward and be a guinea pig for this flegling company. So here's the timeline so far:

  1. Contacted for payment of rifle: October 14th (so that this rifle could go in on the original export being submitted on Oct. 15th). Price was $587.25 US which came to $590 and change after exchange (rifle and shipping to this great country). I was told at that time I wouldn't hear back until around the end of the month for an update of the rifle coming into Canada.
  2. Contacted on Oct.31st saying the rifle was coming into Canada and to please fill out the import info on their website. I do this. **NOTE**: requires a scan of your PAL/RPAL which is uploaded.
  3. Contacted Nov. 7th for gun club info to complete transfer of rifle (as this is a restricted)...and for final payment (import fee and final shipping cost). I'm told at this time that I'll be receiving confirmation info about the transfer (info received!). **edit** I did phone the CFC to make sure everything was on the up & up...not being the trusting guy that I am ;). The lady on the other end looked it over and said it was all fine.
  4. Sit back and await BC CFO to get their S**T together and approve...based on what a couple others have posted (in another thread) I might head to the BC CFO office and see if I can get it expedited. I'll post about that when/if I do. **EDIT**: Gave it a shot...no go! They wouldn't approve on the spot...it was worth a try.
  5. BC CFO finally approves the transfer on Nov. 19th. I let Jason at IRunGuns know. Now the ball starts rolling. I'll be getting the final invoice for the import. This came to $131.25 (import fee + shipping + GST). Total cost for the rifle was $720.40
  6. In the meantime IRunGuns holds one of their Monday specials...the G36 clone. Darn it!! I was going to do that build later but the price is too good to pass. I order one of those. They were just about to ship the HK rifle so they tack that one onto the shipment to save shipping cost. Gotta love them! They are both on their way now...should be here Nov 23rd.
  7. Rifles arrived packed in black plastic (like I'd bought #### paraphenalia...no wonder the postie lady gave me an evil eye :)). The package was marked "card for pickup" so they would not deliver to my house.

So that's where we sit now...right after I started this process I found out that Dlask is bringing in this rifle (and the pistol version). And that is just great...from everything I've read this will be an awesome rifle to plink with. Costs are now updated. You can compare against Dlask if you wish.

Sounds like a process! But not a terrible pain in the ass process.

I think you'll find that the BC CFO is currently the Alberta CFO, (last I checked) who should be able to help you out!

I was reading a thread on the 416D as they were in the process of being brought in by a sponsor of this board. Sorry I can't remember which one.

I have some concerns. First off the barrel is sleeved. I hate that. Also from what I could see the bolt release doesn't function.

If this rifle had a good 22LR accurate barrel and functioned exactly like an AR in terms of ergonomics then I would probably be on the wait list right now. I personally have more interest at this time in the 22LR STG44.

The .22LR STG will be a let down I think, there is only one chambering that rifle should ever be in.

.22 MP5 clone however makes sense, too bad it's prohibited.

I keep coming to the same conclusion about the 22LR version. But I can shoot it at the indoor range during the winter. Still it would seem fake.

HBean I also wanted the 522.

It's a fun gun. I think you'll like it. And very accurate with a red dot scope out to 60-70 yards. More than that and I found my eyes needed something with magnification.

Not too much to say on it...other than it is the best .22LR I have. I'm not much of a shot (about a 2 MOA guy) but this thing can easily outshoot me (but then so can most of my rifles)...it's nicely balanced, just feels right (as I'm sure you're aware with the real thing). My wife tends to take it from me all the time when she shoots. I bought it to keep me from buying the real one as I'm a hold out for that short 10.4" barrel version of the MR223A1. I like it so much I'm tempted to get rid of my SR22 (but maybe I'll hold onto it for when others go shooting with me). I can't see anyone being disappointed with it...well, if I had to nitpick there is the takedown which is not as easy as an AR but anyone who's worked on their guns won't find it difficult.

edit: oops...forgot to mention...I've found that CCI Blazer works best in it (the good ones...not the Federal version). I also ran Thunderbolts through it with the odd FTF...but I think it's more of a mag thing as we're forced to use the Colt M4 mags to get the full round count (the 416 ones apparently have to be pinned to 10...though they appear identical).
