Hi folks, I am looking to import an old Colt Carbine from the USA since there seem to be none available here.

Are there any current restrictions on these older (1970s, 1980s-made) rifles and carbines?

And does anyone know of a broker for such transfers? I've been told that Questar may handle such requests.

Thanks in advance.

Importing it into Canada won't be a problem. Questar is one that handles that sort of thing and I believe Prophet River Firearms (site sponsor up top) does it as well.

The issue, if it's marked 5.56, could be getting it out of the US. The broker you choose will be more up-to-date on that sort of thing, although it has to do with the US ITAR regulations.

For some silly reason, 5.56 is considered military and thus bad under ITAR, while .223 is considered a sporting calibre, thus OK under ITAR.

Flash suppressor, bayonet lug, collapsible stock?

Best of luck getting an export permit from US DoS for that...

Well....

You could technically separate the upper and lower and export them separately I think. The biggest issue will be if it's labelled 5.56mm or .223. If it's a commercial model it will probably be the latter in which case all systems go. The former, DoS is hit or miss. Sometimes they approve it, sometimes they don't.

I would try just the lower so it doesn't have any "evil features" and see. The upper should be less of an issue.
