I just got off the phone with a seller in the US who is trying to determin whether he can legally sell/ship an antique revolver to me. He called BATF and they had no problem with it leaving the US.
I had given him instructions on how to contact a firearms tech at CFR, but he decided to talk with a regular call handler. She wasn't sure, so told him to call Customs. He talked with several people at Canada Customs who didn't know, until he was refered to the 'senior officer' (read as FUDD). This fellow knew - he knew it was imposible to ship to Canada. He knew that if the gun could take ammunition it was not possible and he knew that because the barrel was under 4" it was a prohibited weapon and it would be impossible. He also knew that without export papers it was impossible.... WOW.

Luckily, this seller has delt with dummies before and started to get the feeling the senior officer knew NOTHING about it. He is still willing to try to find someone who knows the real answers. I give this fellow credit - at least he is willing to dig through the bullsh!t to find the truth - most wouldn't after getting the run around. He's also taking his Grand-kids pheasant hunting for the weekend - he's a great gun nut!

Theres some real ignorant fuks out there eh.
The problem is there Stupid and dont know #### so to make it look like they know something they dig in like a Ausi Tick and start spouting what they think is the law then wont listen to reason or that they might be wrong.

I sometimes get people in authority positions who will say im not sure id have to check. but most just start makeing stuff up .

Yeah, right away, I thought of Jetrefueler's short barrel Thunderer that was grabbed. My guess is it is the same guy and he STILL thinks the short barreled cartridge guns are prohibited in Canada. Probably pissed that he had to release the Thunderer and is still trying to stop guns from entering Canada.

To save yourself lots of grief, just tell him whenever he comes across a person who doesn’t know much about this matter to look up in the MEMORANDUM D19-13-2 of Canada Border Service Agency, published on June, 23, 2009 in Ottawa. They will find everything they need to know. All discussion ends right there.

Yes thats good and make sure you state to look on page 21 setion 124 Uncontrolled fireams (includes Antiques)

Theres alot of info in that Memorandom it would take awhile for them to find it other wise being as its not just listed under A for Antiques

Smokepole that was actually a female customs officer and I think she was pretty new but was convinced she was the authority on importing antique guns up untill we found the real expert. I believe she worked out of Mississauga customs in Ontario.

Just get a RCMP letter that states that the gun is an antique, and send a copy down to your seller as well as the relevant memo citing the memorandum mentioned above. Then tell him to drop it in the mail with the documents enclosed with the revolver. On the declaration on the box, have him write, 'Antique: documents enclosed'.

This one worked out fine (of course). The gun was shipped with an antique letter and it sailed through customs. I'm just lucky the seller was persistant in finding out the truth about exporting antiques to Canada.
