I would like to change my SKS's to the 'Improved SKS firing Pin', it is Spring-retracted and eliminates slam-fire possibility. They can be found on the US web-dealers easily enough, but I can't find anyone in Canada that is selling it!

Anyone know where I can order some of these on this side of the border?

"Improved"? I thought that the spring retracted was the early version of the firing pin and that the spring was dropped as unnecessary in later production.

don't waste your money slamfire is a maintainence issue not a parts issue. the only one you will be helping is whoever sells you the snake oil.

x1 Its getting crazy to see bunch of people trying to convince SKS owners that the sks without spring loaded firing pin is prone to slam fire but in fact is not. The secret is to keep it clean and dry and any small burr can be polished smooth with emeri cloth. my two cents:cool:

My sks has a spring firing pin and I HAVE had it slam fire on me. Sometimes I get lazy and don't clean the bolt like I should so I blame that. I really wouldent be to concerened about weather its spring or not. Just keep it clean and save your money.

Those spring loaded pins don't work well in Conjunction with Wolff springs (just so you know)

If you have wolff trigger group springs and a spring loaded pin you won't be able to shoot hard primered ammo anymore.

I swapped out my original pin for one of those spring loaded ones on the weekend. 5 ftf's out of maybe 50 rounds. I changed it back as soon as I got home.

Just a thought, but if the firing pin was such a problem i don't think the russians or chinese would of kept producing this product in the millions. Save your money and keep it clean.

FWIW The spring loaded pin was intended for use on non mil surp ammo that had a softer primer and therefore could slam fire.

If you are using non military surplus or are reloading using conventional Large Rifle Primers and not CCI34's then I would suggest that a spring loaded firing pin might be a good idea.

Forty Bucks is cheap insurance.

Of course YMMV

guys please keep in mind the Russian army is not run by idiots. if the sks needed a spring loaded firing pin it would have one from the factory. A clean sks won't slamfire on any ammo. I can't speak for Russian NCO's but in the CF having a weapon that dirty as to impede function would result in a "enhanced response" from the NCO's. Enhanced response is the new CF term for a boot up your a$$.

i will always spend a little extra money in the name of safety , i purchased one from here

http://www.murraysguns.com/sksown.htm

$35 shipped to ontario , comes with 2 springs .

if a false sense of security floats your boat then go at it. I will spend my 35 on more cheap corrosive ammo and cheeper windex. oh yeah hotlinking to non supporting dealers will get you infracted ps I just went to that site and murray is full of sh!t. see if you can get some unicorn balls or dragon foreskin while you are there :D

Actual conversation from morning inspection long ago, before Trudeauopia had taken hold:

Scene: 5 AM. Squadron parade for inspection on the edge of the tarmac.
Shivering recruit AC2's, standing ramrod stiff, right dressed in columns of three.

Our lord and master is giving us our first going over of the day.

Sergeant, scowling, looks me over and looks at my FN, then barks,
"Airman! Did you shave that ugly thing you call a face this morning?"

Me, jumping more stiffly to attention, knowing my chin was as spotless and smooth shaven as I could make it,
"YES SERGEANT!

Sergeant replies, growling,
"Of course you did, (at this point his voice rises to a full-throated bellow) AND IT'S ALL GONE DOWN THE BARREL OF YOUR BLOODY RIFLE!!
CLEAN THAT FIREARM!"

Motivational speaking at its finest.

Murraysguns.com has their enhanced firing pin and some interesting Youtube videos on the subject. Their pin uses Wolff springs. If you're getting slamfires or worried about them it might be worth a try.
