Interesting video. Would be neat just to try it and have some fun, however, if i was in a situation where i needed to rely on a slug, it wouldnt be the wifes candles mixed with my sons daisy BB's.

If I want to hoard some buckshot, could I buy some cheap #8 target loads and change the shot out for some 6-9 00 buckshot pellets using the #8 bbs as buffer? Do factory slug/buckshot loads use more powder then birdshot?

Yeah. The brass on a slug or buckshot is quite a bit longer then on birdshot.

reloading is cheap, why go through all that BS to get a slug? fiddling around with wax and cutting your shells open...waste of time. Good O'l bubba video though.
If you want to mess around with your shells, I wonder why he didnt show how to remove the birdshot and melt it down in a slug mold?

improvising slugs

totally dangerous, if wax made slugs were 100% safe, id say by now all leading ammunition manufactures would have a wax slug offering???? lmao, ive heard tales from my dads father when he was alive "in a pinch" cut the hull on a bird shot to make a slug of sorts,

for the sake of walmart selling winchester 5 rnd pkgs of 2 3/4" slugs for 3.99$
how can wax slugs be cheaper? thats a little over 60 cents a cartridge

slugs

like i said, at gunshows in bins, ive seen guys selling misc 12 gauge or whatever gauge shells for 25 cents ea., if i was in market for cheap slug shooting, id be combing through bins like this and matching up shells, and buying them, this talk of batteries and dimes and pennies, makes me laugh though, my honest opinion, buy factory loaded slugs, or get a load manual and proper gear, and load real slugs

In that video, they talk about killing deer with those wax slugs. Would that be legal here in Canada? Alberta has restrictions on minimum caliber which would be ok, but they are just shooting wax and bird shot.

Not in BC. BC requires minimum size shot of "O"

The wax doens't make a difference.

Wax slugs SOUND safe at first...but thinking about it, you have taken a safe load, and simply added more weight to it's projectile...meaning likely a fair bit more pressure. Unsafe? I'm not so certain.

Better to do what my buddy does: get a Lee 1oz slug mould and cast/load your own.

Casting your own buckshot, that sucks. We tried it once, not sure if it's worth the effort to do it again. It's about the inspecting and rejecting of 9 times as many pieces of lead as with slugs. Extremely slow, seriously tedious, and that's before you actually assemble them into shells.
