I have been testing loads for my Win Mod 70 30-06. I use IMR 4350 powder, CCI200 primers and 180gr Nosler Protected Point bullets. I am having good success accuracy wise with 55.5gr powder and 56.0gr powder. Was going to try 55.7gr of powder to see how it will react. Is there anyone else out there that uses these same ingredients (powder, primer, bullet)? If so what are you using for powder charges. I need to get this refined before September 10th opening day. I am not that keen on a max charge load of 56.0gr. I had problems earlier with splitting (compressed loads and faulty brass). That is why I am starting from scratch. Open to any info someone might have.

That is the all-time classic load for the .30-06. I've shot hundreds and hundreds of them........almost any 180 gr. bullet with that load works well.
So, Tumbleweed, if I read what you are saying then I should just stick with one of either 55.5gr or 56.0gr and not worry about splitting the difference. Not sure what the real difference would be with an extra .2gr will make anyways. Do you think it would be worth loading some and target checking to see or do you have a recommendation or preference to either load?
I'll make you a little wager. Chronograph a five shot group, then ad .2 grain of 4350 and chronograph that five shot group. I will bet you the velocities will be so mixed together that you can't tell the difference.
By the way, I'll also bet the velocities will be well below the 2700 fps the 180 grain 30-06 bullet was designed to go.

I have done a ladder run from 53.0 to 56.0 in 1/2gr increments 4 shots each. 54.0gr and 54.5gr gave nice tight group of 1" at 100yds with one shot appears to stretch out of group by 3/4" to 1". 55.0 and 56.0 was tight as well at 3/4" grouped with one shot straying and inch from the rest of the group. 56.0gr had 2 shots tight together basically same hole with another just 1/4" away and the fourth sprayed out 2" from this grouping(maybe a pulled shot). Maybe worth my time to run another test group of 54.5gr through 56.0gr. I know I am probably splitting hairs and way over testing when the groups are all fairly tight. I just want to find the best load possible.
