Hi, has anyone had much luck with imr 3031 in the .308 win? With reloading supplies being scarce, it was the only available powder I could find. I have been using varget, but down to 1 pound left and have not been able to get more for a while. I like to shoot but don't want to pay big buck for factory match ammo. I shoot 150 smk's

IMR 3031 has been working great for me with 178 gr amax's. I don't push them to extreme velocity, but they are nice accurate loads, under an honest MOA. Also meters consistently in my powder measure. I also recently worked up a hunting load with IMR 4064, seems to work well and is one of the powders you see in stock sometimes. If you haven't already check out Hodgdon's Reloading Data Center online for load data. Hope it helps.

Much like Cody has posted here, I find I had better luck with the heavier bullets in 308 Win and IMR 3031 versus 150s.

I've had much better results in 30-06 with your bullet weight and this powder. (Garand handloads at medium ranges)

39.5 grains of IMR 3031 under a 168 grain bullet seems to work well in many rifles. It is the go to powder for one of my guns.

fwiw I've had good results from H4895 (42.6gr) with a plain jane HDY 150 gr FMJBT. Tried I3031 but it just wouldn't group for me.

It's very good in the 308, I also use it in my 358 Win. and others,
one of the very best medium burn rate powders that has stood the test of time, it's a classic.

For many years 44 gr. of 3031 / 150 gr bullet was my standard .308 load. I have since tried other powders that are just as good, but not really better.
