I'm presently loading 243 with varget and 95gr sst. I'm wanting to try a different powder to test. I've been reading that 4064 is excellent with 243 but I'm reading good things about 4350 too. Which of the two powders would be more versitile? I plan on trying different weight bullets also. I load 308 too so if I could get a powder that works for both calibers that would be a bonus.

I'm using 4064 with my 243 and 308 and am very happy with the results.

243- (100 gr partitions & 95gr sst)

308- (150 > 180gr all types)

IMR 4064 has been very good in .308 for more than half a century! I have several loads that are superb in MY rifles. YMMV Best to develop & test as all rifles are different but again... it's hard to go wrong with 4064!

I use 4064 for my 308 loads both my bolt Tikka T3 and my Garands (.308 and 30-06). Accurate enough for me. Haven't shot for accuracy in the cold so can't comment in the impact temp has on it. It is my go go powder for .30 cal.

I have been using the 4350's in my 243's with heavier bullets.
I do not load for the 308 at this time but the 4064 range of powders.
I have recently been trying IMR4451 and it is working as well as 4350.
As far as lighter bullets and the 243, 4064 will work.

Don't overlook H414/Win 760 (exactly the same powder).

They work very well in the 243 as well as the rest of the 308 family (308, 7.08) at least when shooting typical hunting weight bullets from the respective calibers.

I "typically load" Varget and 4064 for my 243 but when it was tough to get powder, 414/760 was still fairly available and after giving it a try, I found with certain loads that it gives me upwards of 100 fps more speed compared to Varget and H4350 before I start getting pressure signs.

Worth having a look at.

I use varget in both. It seems though that varget is giving me poor results with the heavier 243 bullets. Thinking about 4350 as well. Is this a temperature stable powder like varget?
