IMR-4064...the most versatile powder?

For those with experience, have you found that 4064 gives any better accuracy than IMR 4895???

Maybe yes, maybe no. I've shot a few thousand IMR4064 and IMR4895 reloads in Garands and M1903 Springfields with 150, 165, and 168gr bullets. On balance I'd give it to IMR4064 by a nose.

For the .308 Win; as the old saying goes, "if your rifle won't shoot well with IMR4895, then you have a rifle problem".

Is Re#15 not a similar burn rate as IMR 4064? It is fairly versatile as well....Win 760 for .250/3000 7x57 7-08 .284 win .270 ....Win 748 .222 .223 7.62x39 .300 Savage .308 30-30 ..........Harold

I load exactly the same charge of either 4064 or Re 15, with the same weight bullet, in a 7mm-08 and the chronograph readings are about identical.

I'm a fan of 4064 as well. Only thing to keep in mind is it is a stick powder and not a flake. May make a difference on how it drops a consistent charge in a auto powder measure to a small degree. IE lee turret. But if your doing larger cap. single stage. Your likely going slow enough and weighing each so no problems with getting exact same measurements.

Don't you find it a bit slow for lighter/smaller stuff?
I am a big fan of 4064 in rifle cartridges, but never heard of it in handgun loads.
I wonder if it would be possible to do a short cut version like they've done with some other powders for easier metering?
IMR 4350 does a good job too.

Because my favorite powders from Alliant are no longer available, I started looking at different powders for reloading. I found recipes with IMR-4064 for the. 260 Rem, .30-30 Win, 44 mag, .35 Whelen, .358 Norma, 9.3x62, .270 win, .30-06, .35 Winchester, .303 British and even the. 45-70. It seems one could standardize on 1 powder for everything. Has anyone else been doing this?

IMR 4064 is my go to powder. Had good success in many calibres.

I was at a large gun show today. There was lots of Varget and only saw one lb of 4064. New powder there was $45/lb.

I have almost 20lbs Varget stashed.

H4350 is my go to for a wide range - from .243, .270, 7mm RM and .30-06

I have used 4064 in the past - mostly for reduced load in my 7mm RM and 150gr bullets.
