Imr 4064

well unless it's hidden on the internet, you mean 4064?

hodgdon has load data for a 180gr bullet with a max charge of 41.1grs of 4064 but no starting load info for some reason. i would start at 35gr and work up, but wait for others to chime in.

what does your reloading manual say?

EDIT: my lyman 49th edition lists 174gr 37gr starting and 41.5gr max of 4064.

You need to buy a manual. You have to work up the load for your rifle, after you have checked the headspace and slugged the barrel.
My old Lyman book gives 38.0 to 42.0 for a 180 grain jacketed. Five grains won't matter.
The Hodgdon site 41.1 max load you reduce by 10%. That's 36.9.

My personal experience with Lee-Enfield rifles puts 42/43 grains as a practical max load of IMR 4064 behind the 174 Hornady
If you are shooting a P14, by some chance, then your max load goes to 44/45 grains of the same powder.

As has been suggested, start down a bit and work up carefully.

Any advise on a good plinking load for 174 grain 303 with imr 4064 for a newb just starting.thx for any help

I have been using 38 grains of 4064 behind the 174 gr hornady round nose bullet as a light general purpose load in both my Lee Enfield No 4 and Ross 1905 sporter. It is the minimum starting load listed in my old Lyman manual. Mild recoil, reasonable accuracy and it seems that IMR4064 is somewhat easier to get locally than some of the more popular powders like 4350.

In actual fact, my Ross M1910 and my P14 303 Epps both run very well on IMR 4320, which is just a tad slower than IMR 4064.

I have a zinger load in my Epps, using the 180 Sierra Spitzer FB.

IMR or H 4895 also make for decent "plinker" performance in the 303 British.
