IMR 4227 in 223 rem.

I looked in an old Dupont book and found that 17 gr was listed as max with a velocity of2800 and a pressure of 51200 cup. Not the best for this round a little fast but it should go bang OK. I'm not sure about action operation. Something like H335 or IMR 4895 may be better suited. Good luck and small groups.

Thank you Iceman for confirmation

I only loaded 100rds with 16 gr I think if its anywhere near 45 000 cu then it will cycle the ar15. As for velocity my rifle is 20'' with 1:7 twist so 2800fps is ok for stable flight of 55gr fmj.:)

Merci

There's one 55 grain SP load on Reloader's Nest. Uses 17 grains of IMR4227. Reducing by 10% gives 15.3, so your 16 grains should be ok. Guy claims 2810 fps. That's around starting load velocities for more commonly used powders. Slower than most.
