I have been given 3 1/2 lbs of IMR4895. 3 cans are still new and sealed, and 1 can in opened. These are from 1998. I think they are ok to use in my .222rem, but just thought I would double check if it expires.

Thanks.

I'd use them unless they have deteriorated from some unusual storage condition, but it should be pretty stable. It usually has a touch of a sweet solvent smell to me.

They are probably no good by now. You would be best to package that stuff up and send it to me for proper disposal!! LOL! Just kidding. It should be great stuff. Load 'er up and let 'er rip.

Given that people still shoot surplus ammo from many decades ago with no problems, you should be fine. As noted, if it smells off and/or looks funky then it may be no good, but given decent storage conditions powder will last decades.

if you open the can and an orange mist comes out don't use it. Also, it the grains seem wet and sticky then its on the verge of generating the orange mist.
