Got any recipes for a low-velocity loading? :yingyang:

I'm working with very limited component availability here :( , and it's really to just finally get some fodder prepped for an antique revolver (it's been a long-time coming :D ).....any help ;) ?........

Well Lyman's take on this combo is 4.0grs. 700x as min. load for 695 fps, and 10,500 cup pressure.....Max. load is listed as 5.0 grs. 700x for 855fps, and 17,300 cup...........To reduce pressure further you could go with a lighter cast bullet.

You'll really have to watch here for accidental double charges as 3.7 grs of 700x takes up very little room in the big .45 acp case, I'd play with Trail Boss instead.

I DID it!

Sincere thanks for all your help, guys!

I bought a .45 ACP/Auto-Rim "Classic" Lee Loader, and on Friday I made my first 18 rounds  (well, actually my first 20, but for the initial 2 cartridges I seated the bullets wayyy too deep into the brass  ).....

Anyhow :yingyang: , I used the lil yellow "Lee dipper" (so no worries about double-charges - just one scoop!) and the process went like clockwork - I managed to "build" 18 usable cartridges total and get them fitted into those "moon clips"....

My "rate of production" averaged about 6 rounds in 15 minutes including interruptions and sundry learning curves (so, about 2 1/2 minutes a cartridge) which, while plenty "fast enough" to suit me (I was generally just taking my time), is not "quite" as fast as this guy:

Then again, he was loading for rifle, not pistol, so I guess that'll be my excuse!

To echo Ben's warning, a double charge of 700X will put you well beyond the danger zone. Using the Lee Loader will likely result in you only loading powder into one case at a time, but please be very careful/aware of your load procedure.

IF you are throwing powder into more than one case at a time, use a piece of dowel (or similar) to check the charge in each case before moving on to seating bullets.

Have fun (and be safe).
