About 5-6 years ago I obtained quite a quantity of this powder from a dealer, could not resist the price. He called it Radford 78L as he got it from the Radford Ord Plant. It is extruded, came in 8Lb jugs with some basic load data supplied. i.e.-.223 -SRM primers, 23gr charge with a 62gr bullet at 2437 fps. .308-LR primer38gr vahrge with a 147gr FMJ bullet at 2199 fps. It is a real slow powder obviously. I have tried it in my .22-250 with 34.5 gr under a 55gr bullet and got an avg velocity of 3359fps. No high performance loads, but will certainly do for playing around. I contacted IMR and they confirmed that they did in fact produce it for the US Military in the 70's, but it was to Mil Spec, they were given the recipe and just made it and shipped it, they had no data on it at all. Does ANYBODY know ANYTHING about this stuff at all? It also works in my M1 Garand, but do the the famous Op Rod issues and slow powders, will keep it away from there!
Thanks
Damon
