IMR 7828 and the 220 Swift

Has anyone tired 7828 in the Swift?

After having two 220's previously over the years, I've just purchased my 3rd Swift and kicking around reloading ideas. I've used 4064, AA2520, 4831, R15 and maybe some others in the past with 55 grain bullets but I have an untapped jug of IMR 7828 so the idea of trying that has occurred to me. I found load data for 7828 and the 220 Swift AI but it's some shooters data and not published data and nothing for the unaltered version. I have a feeling that 7828 is too slow and you might not be able to get enough in the case for optimum performance or maybe it would work with heavier bullets but my rifle has a 14 twist so I probably couldn't go heavier than maybe 60 grains.
Thoughts?
 
that powder is way too slow for that cartridge. the one I had liked 4064, H380, and I was going to try 414 but never did. 414 or varget might make you smile but 7828 is just no. IMO a 14 twist is probably only good for 55 grains. good luck.
 
IMR 4831 is the slowest load I can find with 55gr, and it's compressed.
You could probably make it work, but velocity won't be where you want, and it would be very compressed.
 
Yup, it’s fast! This is my 3rd swift, the first was a custom M54 Winchester with a 26 inch heavy barrel, a great shooter but I could never find an aftermarket trigger for it to get the most potential out of it. My second was an M700 varmint synthetic and it shot well. That one left 20 years ago and I found a box of 40 grain Winchester Supreme ammo in my locker with my hand written notation on the box stating crono 4250 fps. Moving right along!
This one is a Ruger M77 Mk II varmint laminate with a 26 inch heavy barrel. The factory trigger is pure two stage crap, it broke at 3 lbs but with two stages and enough creep to really turn me off. I just installed a Rifle Basix trigger on it and have it adjusted to 1 lb. It’s not in the same category of Jewel or the other big name triggers but it’s a lot less money and fine for what I’ve got in mind. Now I’m waiting for the weather to get a bit nicer to see what it will do!
 
I would be interested in speaking to someone else who is loading for a swift AI shooting heavyish bullets. I recently put a swift AI together, (its a 12% gain in capacity, although it was already overbore). I had a surplus of 75gr A max's so am discharging them from an 8.5 twist barrel.

I've been experimenting with various loadings, but it is largely experimental given the scarcity of verifiable load data on this rare bird. If anyone else out there has first hand experience on this one, I'd be interested in cross-sharing some data and results.

If you use 22-250 AI data you will be quite close. Start low, of course. - dan
