I'm going to be working up some loads for my .308 Norma Mag using 175-220 SMK's, and 178 & 208 A-Max Hornadys. I'm loading for a Tikka M-65 with a 23.5" long barrel and I was wondering if it may be too short to use IMR-7828 and powders of similar burn rate. I'm using IMR-4350 and H-4831 right now but I'm open to suggestions for my next pound. I also did a search and found that there isn't much info for loading the 208 gr A-Max. Has anyone done any work with this bullet for 300 WM (close enough) or could I be lucky and one of you is using them for their .30-338.

Any one have a Mag for the M-65 or LSA-65 they want to sell???

As a long time 308 Norma Mag owner and shooter, I can say that IMR 7828 will be fine in your application. As far as the 208 A-Max goes, I have not shot this bullet in any of my NM's, but If you used the 200 grain info, and reduced it an additional grain for starting loads, you should be able to work up a safe load. Do you have a chronograph? If so, you should get close to 2900 from that 208 at max safe working pressures, using a slow burner like IMR7828 or H1000. [I use Norma MRP in mine, but it can be hard to get] Regards, Eagleye.
