I recently got some old cans of IMR powder, does anyone know what year they switched from cans to the plastic cylinders ?

I also have even older cans where the top of the front of the Can reads "Du Pont" instead of "formally supplied by DuPont" like the last metal cans used, anyone know of when they stopped saying Du Pont on the cans?

Thanks guys!

Interesting find Ill put my 2 cents in just to keep the thread going, I purchased metal cans last year of 4320. I think Varget was the first on I saw in a plastic container in the mid 90s I think 96-97? an you could still get 4064 in a tin. I would think that can is pre 70s I still have some 80s cans (empty) and they look more modern then that one.

Thanks for the info, I had no idea it was that old, the cans were rusty and still sealed, powder works great in 44 mag, payed 10 bucks/can for several cans because the small shop wanted to get rid of it.

This doesn't have any crazy collection value does it? I still have some sealed cans left....

I bought of surplus powder that was old, in the metal tins with the DuPont logo on them. I guess people were scared of the age because I bought them for a song, but they had never been opened and the power is just as good as the newer stuff in the plastic jug.

I didn't look into it but I assumed the powder was of 80's vintage.

Compared to the original production, military surplus #4831 I picked up in the mid sixties, that stuff is brand new. If it has been stored properly and that rust hasn't penetrated all the way through, it should be just fine.

for the older metal tins look for older reloading data
example
IMR 4227 made in Canada is old data
IMR 4227 made in ???? is the new data and (is close to the old data)

there is also plastic cans that say made in Canada

$10 a can is a good deal
