I know I am pushing my luck but I have a chance for my son's GF to join us at the pumpkin shoot coming up. Most of what I was planning on bringing is fairly high power/recoil or a heavy rifle (N305 etc.) I want to build a few light 44 mag rifle loads for a Ruger 77/44 that she will enjoy shooting.

The only pistol powder I have for 44 mag is H 110 and a reduced load is not a good idea.

Anybody have a good "soft" load for 700 X or any of the more common IMR rifle powders (IMR 3031, 4895, 4350, 4198)??? I have a little IMR 4064 left from years back.

This would be with a 240 grain Berry bullet.

A search of the Hodgdon website didn't give any help; Speer and Hornady books either.

Any good ideas???

I am a little surprised that when I select 44 Mag for rifle, I get no data shown. If I call it a pistol round I see the 9.5 700X load.

I think I will load up a box of 8.0 or 8.5 700X to start; hopefully this will be pleasant for a small-ish woman with little shooting or recoil experience. When time permits I will try to develop an accuracy load.

Thanks to all.

I use 44 special loads in 44 mag brass all the time. Nice light recoil, no problems.
I've also played with intermediate loads between special and magnum when there is the same powder listed for both. Also works pretty good.
I'd say 5-7gr of 700x would be pretty light for recoil.
