IMR SR4759 - Useful in the .44 Mag?

I recently ended up with 4 lbs. of IMR SR4759 finding it's way into my reloading cabinet. I know this propellant is popular for use in "reduced" rifle loads...but I also have heard that it works fairly well in the big bore revolver cartridges. Anyone have experience with this? I'm mostly interested in using it in the .44 Magnum; for both rifle and revolver loads.

It is listed in Lyman's reloading book for .44 SPECIAL so could be also used in .44 MAGNUM. A little more research might be prudent but it is a bulky powder so it should work in a larger case.
 
OK, thanks guys. I read on the IMR site that it is described as a pistol powder and that it "works great for the magnums..." but I can't find it listed in their data for any of the calibers I want to use it in.

sr4759 be a tad slow for the 44mag. They like a little bunt in the butt for good accuracy,plus your going to be slow..H110,thats the 44 ticket..AND WIN296 IS NOT THE SAME POWDER !!!!!!!!!!!:mad:
 
SR4759 is a poor choice for the 44 Mag not because of its burn rate (it's between H110 and H4227, two good powders for the heavier bullets), but because it is so bulky that even a full case will give well below max velocity. That having been said, it will work nicely for 44 Spec-level loads which isn't so bad.

Thanks guys. Yes, H110, 2400 or W296 are what I normally use for full power loads. I guess I'll try this stuff for .44 Special level loading purposes.
