Did the search and cannot find any info. I know that 3031 can be used in 7mm but, is anyone using it ?

Was anyone able to develop a GOOD and reliable load with 3031 in 7mm ?

Thanks,
Igor.

P.S. : The reason I am asking is that I have some 3031 left from me playing with .223 reloading and wondering if it is any good for 7mm.

Imr3031 burns too quickly to provide optimum velocities in the 7mmremmag.My older Sierra manual does list some 7mm rem mag loads using imr 3031,but they are 200fps slower than loads using other powders. For this reason, most manuals don't bother with 7mmremmag loads using imr 3031

I don't think it is safe to use IMR3031 with 7mill Rem Mag. According to Powder Burning Rate Chart this powder is way faster than the fastest powder recommended for 7mmRM. If you use safe amount of this powder it won't give your right fps. If you put enough powder it can blow up your barrel.
Good Luck.
Oleg.

To summarize: Yes, absolutely you can use 3031 to create safe loads for 7mm mag.

But it is a poor choice. There will be quite a bit of empty space in the case, and the velocities will be lower than optimum when the pressure is in the safe, correct range.

Best to buy something slower burning.

Imr 3031 in 7mm Remington

This powder is as safe as any other IMR powder in a 7mm Rem. mag....you just need to follow the usual "start to Max. loads" like any other powder.

From the published Duponts IMR powder booklet. 7 mm rem mag. ..they do not provide start loads merely MAX loads!!! Drop down 3-4 grains for start loads.

IMR 3031

120 gr Hornady spire point...52.5 gr. MAX..3180 fps.. 51,200 CUP .

150 gr Rem. PTD SPCL.........51.9 gr. MAX...2850 fps..52,000 CUP

175 gr. Rem Ptd Spcl...........47.5 gr. MAx...2555 fps..50,700 CUP

It is not the most efficient powder for higher velocities with the heaviest bullet weights....but use it up if you got it.

edit........My Lyman # 47 manual gives start to max loads useing IMR3031 for the following.......
120..125...130...140...145..150...154...160..165...168 and 175 grain copper jacketed... so if you need any thing more specific can provide same.

Yep all of the big case magnums like the slow powders, the 7mm likes not the slowest but the second to the bottom of the list.

There is one that comes to mind its an in the middle sort of powder but do not expect any accuracy from either rifle that is IMR 4064, but if it was me its a waste of time.

Use the right powder for the right case, the 7mm likes powder RL-22 or H-4350

The 223 likes fast powder like 4198, or benchmark, or such as this!

varget or RL15 would be the closest "do all" powder. but again, those are too fast burning to give ideal results in a 7RM. Pick up some 4831 or similar slow burning powder for the big 7
