I was wondering if anyone has loaded 7mm rem mag with 150 grain bullets using imr4895 i have some but have not found any data for loading 7mmrm with this i,m new to reloading so any suggestions would help.

The reason you are having trouble finding data is because small bore large capacity cartridges like the 7 mag produce higher velocities with less pressure with slower powders. When a fast powder is chosen, high pressure occurs before the the optimal velocity can be achieved.

As a starting load try 47 grs of IMR 4895 with a 150 gr bullet and increase in 1 gr incriments watching for pressure signs. Maximum should be about 52 grs for 2900 fps. By comparison, a maximum load of IMR 4831 breaks 3200 fps.

Hope this helps, and welcome to CGN.

Thanks for the reply,s i think i,ll just stick with the 4831 and leave the 4895 for when i do up some of my brotherinlaws rounds for his 300wsm.

"...4895 is to fast for 7mm mag..." Um, no.
Lots of data on Hodgdon's site. Not for IMR4895 though. That just means they didn't test it when they did the data for their page.
My old Lyman 45th Edition book gives 48.5(2657fps) to 53.5(2933fps) of IMR4895 for a 150 grain jacketed bullet. A .30-06 will give faster velocities than that with IMR4895 and a 150. Not by much though.

being new at this the IMR data site calls for 58 to 62.5 grains of 4831 isnt 63-65 pushing it alittle.

Look it up is your best bet, I use 65 g of RL 22.

My comment refered to load density and not to specific powder charges.

I use RL-22 for my 7mm

Thay like a full case vs what IMR 4895 would give you.

I too think it is just a faster burn rate than what you are looking for, yes it will make it go bang, but likely with a huge standard dev!

Rifle ammo should be loaded with a fairly full case. 4831 will do that. 4895 is a 308/30-06 type powder, too fast for good results in a 7MAg. You can make plinking ammo with it, but if you have 4831 on the shelf, that is a much better choice. Same for the 300 MAg.

7mm rem mag

my sierra manual from 1971 has listings for for imr 4895 in the 7mm rem mag
these are the max loads listed:
120 gr spitzer 58.6 gr mv 3300
140 gr spitzer 55.8 gr mv 3000
160 gr spitzer 50.9 gr mv 2800
168 gr matchking hp 52.1 gr mv 2800

i tried some 154 hornady sp with 52gr and found them to be quite accurate. if memory serves, a 5-shot group was just over an inch at 100. didn't bring the chrony that day, so i have no idea on the speed, but if all i had was 4895 on hand, i wouldn't hesitate to use it.
