A friend of mine has acquired an 8 guage shotgun that his dad owned as a kid. Anyhow, its still in good shape, and he's interested in reloading black powder loads for it. He asked me if I knew anywhere that I could acquire some brass shotshell hulls to reload for it. I know its a tall order, as I personally have never seen ANY 8 guage ammo (factory or homerolled) PLEASE HELP A MAN KEEP IT IN THE FAMILY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He is already a shotgun reloader, but this is special to him, and I thought I could tap my resources to help him out. Thanks in advance for any info.

8 gauge brass hulls can be obtained from www.rockymountaincartridge.com . Not so cheap, but they will last a long time and are well made.

Hi sharptail,
any idea if they ship international?? They make no mention of it on the site, and I wonder if brass hulls are legal to ship out of the usa???? Please if anyone can clarify , that would be awesome. I am excited to be able to help my buddy out.

Winchester still makes an 8-bore Industrial shell with a flat-pointed Slug. They are for opening steel furnaces, blowing the claybrick plug out of the bottom so the thing can pour. I would think that pressures would be quite enormous and definitely unsafe in an old gun... but you might be able to wangle some empties out of them.

Eight-bore is legally classed as a cannon in most places; you can`t hunt with them but they are still a lot of fun. I have no idea why they are banned for hunting: a modern 10 uses the same load as an old-time 6!

Government.

Fellow had an 8-bore double RIFLE out at the range last year: VERY impressive! You didn`t have to shoot the elephant with it; he died of a heart attack when he saw what you were using!
