in reloading whats is the worst thats happened to you ????

Three times at least, I've forgotten to close the trap door on the back empty chute on my Lyman DPS 1200 after emptying it. Each time, I've later filled the hopper with powder, only to have it all run out the back. Quite the mess and waste of powder. You'd think I'd learn after the first or second time.

That's the worst for me, save for a few ruined pieces of brass from using too much lube in my earlier days of reloading.

*Over lube dimples
*ruined a few new 25-20 cases by failing to size before loading - bullets too large for the necks
*partial case head separations on 7MM Rem Mag caused by pushing the shoulders back too far when resizing the brass
*had to pull bullets on loaded rounds after noticing I was using an innapropriate powder charge by looking at the wrong line in the manual and charging for a different bullet weight than I was actually using
*broken a few decap pins through various brain fart foibles
I'm sure there's more ... just can't remember them all right now ... nothing that created serious trouble, but some that certainly had the potential to do so

Ruger P345D - double charge of Titegroup - shot it over the chrony and it read out at exactly twice the energy. Slide locked back and it crunched the recoil spring. Remember that the 345 has a plastic frame - change the springs and the gun went back into service - 8 or 10k ago - still a favorite shooter. Don't try this at home folks - 'specially if you don't own a Ruger.

Ive been lucky I should say or careful. The only problem I had was when I loaded a 1000 9mm in one day I got tired and missed couple of cases that had no powder. Ended in up in the gun and has two squibs to deal with. Never happened again

Spilled some powder a couple of times... blown up a couple of vacuum cleaners by sucking up a live primer I didn't see.

I never thought about the primers being an issue with a vacuum - I was going to vacuum me rug under the bench where I reload today - maybe I will take it out and shake it. :)

I have pulled a few bullets myself, but only about 40, and that was wasteful enough for me. Now, I only load a few if trying out something new.

1) Bent de-capping pins
2) Stuck a couple of cases bad in the dies when I was first starting
3) Did not size a group of brass for my 300 WM and could not close the bolt on them after I loaded them.

Squb loads in 20 rounds of .38 special. I fired the first, it popped, fizzled and spit the bullet out of the rifle bouncing through the grass. Took them home and almost half were powder less. This was about 15 years ago...

Well I crushed primers ... But the vacuum blowing up ... Now that's a good one!!!!i bet he jumped pretty high and buddy who forgot to take his fingers out to seat the bullet and squashing them !!! And turning them black and blue well !!! That puts the icing on the cake!!!!!! Eyh eyh eyh I can hear him yelling from here.... Thank you people for sharing priceless moments ...ahhh it just made my day ..... Thank you

Hahahaha a buddy had an old box of paper 12ga with mysterious origins but set off hunting grouse one fine Manitoban fall day... He stalked his quarry with the utmost skill getting within 10 or so paces of it... He drew the bead nice and high so to just take the head off... The trigger broke like glass on his Auto-5 as he was savoring the thought of a bacon wrapped breast frying in the pan...
He said it was played out in slow motion...
There was a click against his cheek, a small pop instead of a large bang, he watched the shot and cup fly thru the air and hit the bird square in the chest knocking it over, by the time he had lowered the gun the bird was collecting itself, gave him a nasty look and flew away.... Lmao... I'd say it was the last time he ever took a box of his fathers "yard sale" ammo out hunting but... That's a story for another thread.

having to pull 500 bullets

I`ll see your 500 and raise you 500+...(different times different calibers).
Nothing worse than loading a bunch of ammo only to discover they don`t work...
While playing with a wildcat handgun cartridge first I loaded a bunch only to find out I had chosen the wrong powder (I was told N110 but later learned I needed H110).
The next batch I find out the sizing die was incorrect.
The next batch I learned I was using the wrong primer (standard instead of magnum).
It was a happy day when it all came together.

O ya and the de-capping pin throu the finger tip.... O my that's a good one !!!! Like how do you do that .... People who do we rate this ... Who is first ..second ..and. Third ......
The exploding vacuum!!!
Squash The finger in the press ...( black and blue)!!!!!
And the de-capping pin throu the finger tip!!!!
Place your votes now!!!!!
I've been laughing for awhile now... Is it me ... Am I the only one who finds this funny!!!!
Lmao!!!!!!

I guess it's only a problem when you buy a really cheap vacuum. But it did get me out of running the vacuum cleaner permanently. Missy just doesn't vacuum under my desk, but we have berber. The last place had regular plush carpet. The primers actually stay on top and are easy to find with berber. But before I clean under my desk I'll run a couple of passes with a magnetic broom to get anything steel that might have fallen down there.

You weren't the one picking plastic shrapnel out of your teeth and hair. :p

My worst reloading problems were a couple of duds, not sure if the primer got contaminated or was bad from the factory, same batch though. I have also had several 222 cases stuck in a die so i made up a stuck case puller. Just luck or paying attention to details when loading, who knows. I'm finding that loading 17 and 20 cal bullets can be a pain in the fingers.
