In Search of a Training Rifle - Close to an AR

The reality is, if it even LOOKS similar to an AR, then they have automatically been deemed to be variants. Are you going to find a non restricted close to an AR? Nope.

Actually, the SCAR is damn close with it's front charging handle. Safety is similar, mag release is similar and mags are similar size. I think it will work well enough for what I need.

The SCAR clone has had questionable reliability. Plus the barrel is sleeved.

The one I really wanted was the Sig 522. But due to a BS classification it's prohibited.

That's the fix for light strikes. Sleeved barrel doesn't bother me. I ain't shooting it for accuracy and so long as it cycles I'm happy. Price of 22LR to .223 is substantially different.

Lol... Go put your hands on one... It's about as AR-ish as a carrot is ice cream cone-ish.

For all the naysayers on airsoft... It's alright, you don't know what you're missing! Not only is it trigger time, but it's also sight picture time, acquisition time and all around muscle memory practice. Anyone who frowns on all of that mixed with a dose of smiles, fun and adrenaline should get their head checked! I've used a PTP pistol to train with for a long time now and it only makes sense with the advent and availability of good full-metal airsoft AR's that I should go that route.

I'm going to just get a decent PTP AR and use that. I'll still get the SCAR though cause it's cool. Cheers!
