A semi automatic rifle will never shoot as good as a bolt action. If people are serious about LR shooting, they don't buy a semi in any caliber, so those statements are from people who most likely want to pass their "vast knowledge" to gullible people. I really would like to know why such statements are made and who those people are. I saw posts on facebook and it appears to me that they are just looking for an audience. Gunnutz or enthusiasts should cherish their hobby. If I would make posts like above or the ones on fb in a real enthusiast group, I would get kicked out, be it offroading Jeeps or knitting.

many forces today are using semi auto rifles for a precision role. but the accuracy they are looking for is a minute of a man nothing else. i should add halft of a man as we used to shoot during my army time.
we used 2 kinds for that the 49/56 and the frf1 (bolt action) and they worked equally at 400m and farther.
what you re reciting about semi not shooting as good as bolt is a made off story both can shoot equally and reliably and are used in army forces today for dmr and or sniper roles.
now on the lr way of coourse you can shoot semi as well: try a semi in 338 lapua and come back, but the platform will be more expensive than a single shot or a bolt one for sure.
but let alone all of that and let us enjoy the wait and later the shooting of what some do not want and some others want.

I have witnessed semi automatic rifles shoot well enough to compete with bolt action rifles.
It does depend on the platform and the shooter but there are many semi actions out there that shoot the lights out. I've built a few myself.
as for this type 81 sr...... I have not been interested in the type 81 rifles from the get go. Not knocking them in any way, the rifle just doesn't reach out to me.
That said , when this SR version came out I have to admit the gunnut in me screamed ..... cool.... I need one of those. LOL
These are what I call "fun guns" and for me the price versus utility just doesn't align for me. So for me what would hook me.... line and sinker..... would be if the same rifle was in a caliber with more utility. .308/7.62x51 would be an obvious choice and would certainly open up various uses for the rifle beyond just being a "fun gun".
The SKS rifles were always offered as cheap blasters but these days most ranges have too made prudes to tolerate blasters at the range.
My last "fun gun" day at a range in BC was down at the abby range when they hosted a halloween night shoot...... that was over 15 years ago now..... and blast away we did
The SR, with all the options regarding the mount, optic, ect just hits a $$$ ballpark that for a fun gun.... I can't justify it right now but if I had more play money I might consider picking one up. I live in the interior of the province and there are many places around me that I can shoot pretty much as far as I want too so if this rifle "was" is say 7.62x51 ..... like I say , that would be a rifle I would have a hard time resisting.
certainly is a cool looking gun in any caliber. Gonna follow these threads for some reliablilty and range reports before I make up my mind.

My rifle is still listed as “processing” but it was “Electronic information Submitted by Shipper” since last Tuesday. Yesterday it jumped to Scheduled Delivery October 11th, while all last week it was saying delivery on Oct 7th (that didn’t happen)
It will be here tomorrow tho, as I see it’s at the local Post Office

I get notifications automatically because I’ve got a business account (my wife’s business). It’s also why when I sell stuff on EE I can ship so fast… except for the bloody CFO moving so slow, I’d have a pistol I sold to another nut last week, in his hands today.

Honestly this gun is missing only one thing and I'd be really happy. I would love to have dragunov style handguard and dust cover. Will likely never happen but that's what I want. Going to take my rifle deer hunting next week. Should be perfect.

A Halloween night shoot... A bunch of us did one about 5 years ago
Pumpkins full of tannerite and a pile of 7.62x39 tracers, man that was a fun night!
I miss that too. I once had the idea of building a Drag from a SKS and sourced an upper and lower hand guard. They are quite thin and light actually. Sold them a few years later for a staggering US$600.
