I am looking to buy a pair of electronic in the ear protectors. I am looking for some feedback. What have some of you action shooters use or have tried? Did you like them, would you buy them again? Any info would be helpful.
I have been thinking about Magnum ear.
Thanks

Yes electronic muffs do work good. I do use them myself at the moment. But that was not the question. I am looking for feedback on (expensive) in the ear electronic ear plugs. Looking to get away from the bulk of muffs. Thanks for you input though.

I have been looking at a set myself. The opinions I have gotten from people that actually own and use them is that the custom pour and mold in your ear are the way to go. They can add the electronic function as well. These are one of customs that can get expensive $600-$1000. Most people have purchased them at major matches where a vendor does them on the spot. The drawback for indoor shooting or open division is that they still don't protect the small bones that sit behind the ear that muffs can protect.

Thank you.
This is the kind of input I am looking for. I do shoot open. I did go to a hearing aid store, can't recall the name right now. They are trying to sell me on a set called magnum ear. They are a poured in the ear and molded, there are four listening modes. moderate wind, maximum wind, phone and mute. The doctor said the where good for the concussion to. Price quoted is about $500 per ear.

Looking for other options too.

I don't think i would want to use them while shooting open. I use the foam plugs plus my muffs when shooting. There's the noise and like you said the added concussion of an open gun. Or say a big rifle with a break. May be the reason most don't use them, they don't work well enough.
If you do get them i would be interested in your opinion on them with an open gun though.

There are several things to consider.

1/ keeping them clean so you don't give yourself ear infections.

2/ if you are just plinking with a small caliber light load OK

3/ if you are competeing then use these plus earmuffs as you want less distraction so you can concentrate on the shootinig itself.

4/ most handgun flinching is caused by noise not by recoil, so both plugs and muffs.

5/ anything mre than a 22 will damage the samll bones in your ear and leave you with tinitus(ringing) especilayy if you shoot indoors or worsr yet in the shooting ports indoors.

Only muffs will protect the Mastoid Bone, found behind the ear.
