In the market for a 5.56 semiauto

You can order the non threaded handle BCG from Kodiak. You may also be able to get it from True North Arms. The True North Arms upgraded upper uses a handle with an indexing dowel in concert with a screw, so it should be both readily manually removeable, but not unscrew on its own.

For sure...I am just hoping to get a replacement for free (ie. through warranty if and when mine breaks). Though for the cost and aggravation, it may be more enjoyable to just buy one and replace it, but I am a frugal (read: cheap) guy.

Love my MCR, about 1500 rounds through- of that 1000 has been Barnaul steel case, never a single issue (except firing pin retaining pin, changed that), accurate enough for me, actually comfortable to shoot. Thought about a shorter barrel someday but will see…

I completely gave up on my G3 handle. Even with locktite and significant torque she would come loose. Eventually the only solution that worked for me was a handle from Spectre with locktite. It stays put now.

Cheers
Moe

The "world" we live in is commie Canada

I personally would never own one. They are reliable, and for what it is a good deal. But jesus the safety location is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. I can't even look at one without cringing.

What a world we live in where T97s are the go to suggestion.

you still use your ar15 if you want, oh wait ... lol we can not be picky if we want to shoot ...

I just got a t97. Love it. Keep the hand away from the ejection port or you'll bust it open lol.

The lower handguard sucks and doesn't have any pic rail but you can get kits for 400 ish. Or drill and loctite a pic to the lower lol.

Accuracy is really nice. Just remember to loctite the screws on the upper receiver cause it will come off and you might end up destroying the recoil spring

Guy next to me at the range spent half his time just trying to fix his MCR. Meanwhile my commie poor man's Aug97 had zero issues. Definitely a good buy

Well finally pulled the trigger and picked up a T97 from a fellow CGNer. Came with a reddot and 3x magnifier. Love the fit and feel so far, but haven't fired it yet (hopefully tomorrow). Only complaint I have is that none of my ar mags seem to fit. Tried pmag gen 3s, LAR pistol mag and another miscellaneous mag I had kicking around. I guess it's back to the drawing board on that, might try to polish the magwell, and possibly modify some of my mags.
Anyone have any tips or tricks for properly polishing the magwell?
Looking forward to getting it out to the range tomorrow and putting some lead downrange.

No big deal.
File the Pmags along the BHO spine (both sides) with a small file...not much needs to be removed so do a bit at a time.
Your mags will drop free no problem after that.

You could do the same to the magwell, but should you screw up and remove too much material, it is non-reversible...better to screw up a $ 30 Pmag than a $1000 T97....

This was definitely the correct option.....45 minutes with the file and all my mags drop free. And the finish on my rifle is intact. As I sat down to do this, I thought to myself why did I ever consider filing the magwell?

so maybe try to find some norinco mag as well. the gen 3 is not know for having issues with mags but it can happen.

I'm quite impressed with this rifle, everything is super tight, feels very solid in hand and is decently comfortable to shoulder. My mag well is super tight though, but after filing the mags they seem to work like a charm.

glad to hear it.

I sold a T97 with FTU to fund my 5.56 semiauto project - which ended up being a wk180c. It shoots fine, much more accurately and reliably than the T97 did, better trigger. Now thinking of selling or trading wk180c to get a PCC in 9mm as that's a better fit for 3-gun matches for me at this point. The ruger PCC seems nice.

ruger pcc is too heavy and the reason i sold the 2 we had. one unfired the other was used a little nothing to complain other than that. for now a mck with a glock fill the pcc gap i have.

I'm glad it worked out for you.
I run into lot of people whom had given up on using the Pmags in their T97, without realizing how easy it is to fix this issue...

I was surprised at how easy it was....Certainly worth the time I put in.
Now to my range report. Have to say the rifle was comfortable to fire and easy to get the hang of. While I did have some issues with mags getting caught up in my jacket when trying to eject them, I figure this would be a problem with any bullpup design. I found the trigger to be surprisingly decent, after reading reviews and a lot of people complaining about the trigger I was expecting the worst but it was certainly serviceable. I'd even say it was better than the triggers on most of the guns I own. Overall it was very comfortable and easy to shoot, recoil was minimal, and it seemed stable on firing making getting back on target a breeze. Definitely glad I went this route and I'm looking forward to putting it thru its paces again once I track down some more ammo. On that note what's the best deal on 5.56 going at the moment?

If you want to do bench shooting, you may want to get a split bipod for the side rails, like this -> amazon dot ca Feyachi-M-LOK-Adjustable-Compatible-Hand-Guard/dp/B084Z5KN2C/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?keywords=side+bipod+mlok&qid=1638464283&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&smid=A211XTRG8Z1K1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExNkZPR1ZBRlRHTjM4JmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMDc5MjkzUjY2SE1ORFFWSExVJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA0NjAwMThNTzZSSzIwSzhRTE8md2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGYmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl

Certainly something to consider. I think most of my shooting with this rifle will be off hand, but you never know. Definitely need to find a sling for it though.....
