So I am in search of a 10 mm 1911. I've searched up and found 2 guns I really like.
The kimber LTE custom 2 or the.
Colt delta elite.

But I would like to shoot very hot loads out of it and read that the colt does not have a supported chamber. I can't find whether or not the kimber does. Need help on this as my local gun shop doesn't not have either for me to inspect. What one would yous recommend between the 2. I was really leaning towards the colt as I need a stainless 1911.

What are the negatives and positives of an unsupported and supported barrels.

Thank you
Ken.

The Kimber is fully supported and apparently quite strong (thicker chamber etc.). I'd opt for the Kimber if I was planning on shooting hot loads. Even though a lot of people complain about Kimber's qa/qc, there is a fairly loyal following for it in 10mm. I do have a soft spot for the delta elite and was tempted (and i don't plan on shooting hot reloads) but it is pretty basic GI and I'd want adjustable sights.

Depending on your price range, you would be doing yourself a favour to check out the 10 mm offerings from Dan Wesson and STI. You'll be impressed.

I have a Kimber and really like it. I normally shoot 40 S&W level loads through it for practice but have replaced the spring with 22# springs and have shot equivalent to 41 mag loads. These are extremely accurate and powerful. I would love to take it to Texas and shoot hogs.

However, I must admit I have had issues getting it to stop jamming due to the slide stop not being fitted properly. Would I buy again, yes definitely. Love the gun!

After looking on dan wesson/cz I do like the dan wesson razorback. It is listed at 1,350$ us on the site. That is with in my budget and is exactly what I am wanting, depending on if I can find a dealer to get it. I have gone through all supporting dealers so far with out any luck finding one.

All Kimber 10mm's have fully supported chambers and ramped barrels. I think the only 10mm 1911 that is made today without a ramped barrel is the Delta Elite, don't know why, but it should.

I was looking at the sti and I am not a big fan of the front serrations and the overall look of sti's gun. I prefer the gi style. I am thinking that the dan Wesson is gonna fit my likes and needs pretty well. It's in my price range. It looks amazing. Supported barrel for hot loads. And stainless as I yet to have a true stainless gun.

I would go STI Perfect 10.
I'm not sure if it's just an issue with the older pistols but I've been told to avoid the Stainless Delta's, supposedly they don't have enough flex and the lower has been known to crack.
I am also thinking of getting a 10mm in a 1911 but for now I'll stick to my Glock 21 with Storm Lake 10mm conversion barrel.

The Perfect 10 is a great gun, but it's overpriced for what you get, there are more affordable alternatives.

Some early Delta's had a problem with the frames cracking right above the square hole in the frame for the slide stop, the problem was fixed by machining out the top of the square hole.

First pic is of an early Delta Elite frame, second pic is of a more recent Delta Elite frame...

Yeah. I am gonna start calling and asking around. I think I have found the Perfect gun. And that is the dan Wesson razorback 10mm. Stainless steel GI model. The the price is pretty fair. 1350$ us (as per their website) I am not a big fan of the front serrations. Not to sure why but never peaked my interest.
