A week or two after sending out my RPAL application. I was sent to the Emergency Room with Alcohol Poisoning.

Does this count as a:

d) During the past five (5) years, have you threatened or attempted suicide, or have you suffered from or been diagnosed or treated by a medical practitioner for: depression; alcohol, drug or substance abuse; behavioural problems; or emotional problems?

I have a squeky clean record otherwise, not even a driving ticket. This was the only time I got alcohol poisoning.

I never thought this might be an issue till tonight, this might explain why my Application is taking longer than usual though.

i think you should be ok....your application is taking longer that usual? have you applied before? hmmm... weird....

No this is my first time applying. I did accidentally check off name change, which I called and corrected before they sent out the letter, but today is I believe day 28 and my name is still not up on the website. I called today and they said I should be called within 2 weeks, and that I would get my license "soon". They also said my application has been re-assigned in the office? Whatever that means.

I believe that when they refer to to Alcohol Abuse they are talking more about being an Alcholic. Substance abuse. Alcohol poisoning is more akin to getting looped. Pretty much every college kid does that once or twice.

They don't have access to medical records anyhow. One of your references would have to raise the issue and sell you out.
Or your Doctor raises a Red Flag, much akin to issues with your driver license. They are obligated to inform the dmv.
But, this is highly unlikely the case you speak of.
The most likely reason it is taking so long is the fact they are downsizing staff levels and there is an increase in applicants.
Relax and wait, eventually your name will apear on your computer screen.

Regardless of the interpretation, read your own quote. Key word is "past". What happened to you was in the "future" based on the date of your application.

The most important concern is that we need details of the night in question. Sounds like you may have had an awesome night. Well, up until the hospital thingy.:p

Don't be worried about that. They will not find out about it. Hence the question on the form, you would have to tell them for them to find out.

No, every college kid does NOT do it once or twice.
I wouldn't take this incident lightly. You might want to think about staying away from the stuff entirely...Do you have a family history of alcoholism?

:(.. Alcohol can, and does, KILL! If Hospitalized for Alcohol Poisoning, it's no laughing matter, nor should it be considered, just a Student type, prank, or passage of right.. ... David K

Were you drunk when you did that? :p
Name changes at the bar only, and only if you get lucky.

There's all kinds of threads here about wait times. A recent one, the poster was at almost a year. And others in that thread confirmed they were in the same boat. Some at a year.

Usually takes about 8 weeks I think for a new application.

I think there's a sticky about PAL wait times. Maybe some info there for you as to how long people are waiting.

If you want to speed up your application, have your references and your self call the CFC, and tell them that you would like to be interviewed. If you wait for them to call you, your license will arrive in June.

This only works once he's in the system. There's absolutely nothing that can be done to speed up being entered into the system. The death of the LGR, hunting season, and early-winter boredom has apparently lead to a surge of applications.

You can read through the first post of THIS THREAD for tips on getting your application approved faster. The thread has continued as people post their timelines.

go easy on the booze, it eventually causes nothing but problems. you'll get your PAL don't worry just be patient.

I do not drink often, and when I do drink I do not drink too much, that was a freak incident, and I was lucky enough that my friends were sober enough to help me and call an ambulance. Ironically, I was the one out of my group of friends that had training on how to deal with that.
Thanks for the advice.

From what I searched online for definitions Alcohol Abuse, that does not fit it.
