Incomplete Ignition

CFE Pistol is a fine ball powder and feeds well. It's relatively slow for 9 mm but works well for high power loads. Anything near Minor loads results in lots of soot but if there is nothing else out there it can work. Currently my 9 mm preference (keeping in mind my light target loads) is VV N320 followed by HP38, then Titegroup, CFE, Clays or whatever is available.

Good to know and thanks for the information. My primary interest in handgun is making PF for IDPA. I use HP38/231 for my 9MM 125gr LTC bullets for local matches. Clays gopes into my revolver load as I find it shoots real clean. With the powder shortage I am using up 4lbs of PB for practice loads in 9MM and 38spl. I also have developed a load using 700X which seems to work well in the 9MM. Crazy what you have to resort to when things get tight.

Marlk-11 I will get hold of Budget, thanks.

Not sure which 45LC load you are referring to. 7.1 gr of 231/HP38 is maximum per Hodgdon Powder on line manual. 8 - 8.5 gr of Unique under a 250 gr bullet in 45LC is a pretty standard load. What do you consider "pretty Light". I don't enjoy the fire ball loads and I assume the OP isn;t either given his present load.

I was referring to the 5.3gr 45acp load, that's why I said it was a good load in 45qacp but too light for a 45Colt, and quoted your post that had the 45acp load in it.

Ah I would not use the 5.3 gre load in 45LC nor did I imply that either in my post. One load for one cartridge and another load for the other.

Welp - I got off the range today after switching loads. I switched to 4227 and barked it up to the max in my old Nosler manual - 17.5 grains. Still getting unburnt powder granules though. Wish to gawd I could lay hands on other powders though...
