Inconsistancy with red dot and lee press

I've been loading .45acp for a while now and have been using red dot with great success, The only issue that I have is the inconsistancy on the the amount of powder. Red dot is a coarse fast burning powder and was wondering if you guys recommend a different powder.
 
I like Win 231/HP-38 for most of my auto pistol calibres because they shoot and meter great. I believe TITEGROUP is a favorite in .45 ACP as well.

Red Dot, Unique and other flake powders I use, don't meter as good as spherical powder out of the thrower, so I weigh by hand when I do use them.
 
Many have also told me they like Bullseye in 45ACP. I just bought a lb last week but have not loaded any with it yet.
 
If your using a Lee powder measure move the toggle back and forth a couple of times to dislodge any powder in the chamber.
I meter unique to within plus or minus ~.1 of a grain with this method.
 
I use the Lee auto disk and have never had a complaint about inconsistency with Red Dot or 700-X.
Now, if you are using the old style Lee auto disk with the spring return you might have some problems, which is the reason the new ones come with a positive return chain. Perhaps that is your problem?
Otherwise, what kind of inconsistency are you getting?
Nothing wrong with Bullseye, and it will meter well.
 
Did you take down your Lee Powder Measure and swab the innards with powdered graphite (Lock-EEZE or substitute)? it will stop any chance of static buildup that can cause powder bridging.
Also, wipe the insides of the see-through powder hold with a sheet of Bounce.

I have used Bulleye for both my 45acp (200 rounds) and my 9mm (1000 rounds), never had a problem with them. I make a lighter load for the 45 when the wife uses it.
 
Bullseye is accurate and consistent even when loaded down to powder-puff loads, but quite dirty when loaded to max, even dirtier when loaded light.

There are better powders, IMO. 231, Universal and in the past, I really liked WSL for accuracy and low residue.
 
Yup TiteGroup for me.. I don't even change the disk when I change between .45 and 9mm.

9mm 4.2gr behind a 124gr bullet
.45 4.2gr behind a 230gr bullet

I like both the loads. The .45 load is on the light side, so some people may want it hotter.

9mm 1.135
.45ACP 1.21 (campro flat nose) 1.235 (Barrys).

I don't use a crimping die, just the Lee seating/crimping die. Basically I just take the flare out.

I tried the next hole up on the Lee powder drop but found them too hot. It was dropping 4.8gr - 4.9gr

I found the same thing, what I did to fix that was buy a powder charge micrometer for 10$. It allows you to adjust measure with out removing anything. It basically replaces your auto disk.
