Increase SKS accuracy!

I still have better than 20-20 vision, but I also have presbyopia which necessitates wearing reading glasses for close up stuff. The worst part of it is that I know just enough Greek to know that "presbyopia" roughly translates as "old man eyes".

I'M ONLY 49 DANGIT!!!

yah there is some trigger improvement to be made for sure, I have done an sks trigger job before so that is next

the cover wobbles because it is loose and not screwed into the receiver, and not really a good design for mounting a scope

do people generally re-harden hammer and sear after doing a filing job on the sks..? I took off a pretty significant amount, and have been pondering this..

The best way to get better accuracy from an SKS, is to move your face closer to the rear of the receiver

fixed it.

Key to SKS accuracy is to think outside you comfort zone and try some different shooting stances. Guys that get stuck in their "been doing it that way fur 20 years" attitude will always shoot the SKS like sh!t.

For me, my SKS was shooting all over the place...worst than OP. As a new shooter, I tried to figure out whats wrong but no dice. Even purchased a similar receiver mount and cheap scope....still no luck. So I tried one of those cartridge laser bore sighter. At 25 yards, the sights were way low from where the laser dot is located....guessing it was 4-5 inches gap. So i adjusted the front and rear sight to line up with the laser dot and voila! Now its point and shoot.

The SKS is a dandy little rifle, handicapped only by those crude 19th-Century sights.

In my opinion, anyway, it would be improved vastly by the installation of a decent aperture sight. This is a sight with a HOLE in it to look through.

If you wanted to be all European and technical, you might call it a DIOPTER sight, although, to me, that means that you have to stuff your eyeball through it (painful) in order to get it to work.

By looking through the tunnel made by your scope mount, you have extemporised an Aperture sight.

Obviously, it works for you.

Trick to Aperture sights has already been mentioned: forget that the damn thing is even there.... and just look through it at the FRONT sight.

Now squeeze the trigger gently until it goes.

BEST book ever done on shooting with Aperture sights is SHOOT TO LIVE!, the Canadian rifle-training manual written in 1944. You can download a FREE copy over at milsurps dot com.

Just a warning, though: by doing this, you are letting yourself in for many hours of fun, informative reading and great cartoons.

Go get it!
