Not political at all. Allowing first responders like myself the opportunity to afford protection so I can come home to my family at night is not political. It is about not wanting people to get hurt. We are dealing with a deadly virus and protests at the same time...PPE is PPE. Hand sanitizer, N95, and ballistic vests...

A flat discount to everyone would be apolitical. A first responder discount is inherently pro-government, increasing that at the time when blm and protests for police reform are ongoing its undeniably pro-government. At a time when these are the same people that will be going door to door to steal from citizens is also tone deaf for this audience.

You guys getting the discounts seem to have a very questionable understanding of the definition of “apolitical”...

A discount to all people in population epicenters would be truly benevolent.
I am a rural dweller, for what it's worth.

Well, to be fair, they DO offer a discount to everyone on their soft plates.

I would expect you to demonstrate your integrity by refusing to accept any emergency medical assistance from "the government" and/or "pro-government" first responders …
put your actions where your mouth is ...

Government and its agencies do not use these discounts for government's procurements, it's people who spend their own money to get a better protection for themselves while on front lines...
in many cases they would be able just to claim unsafe work environment and refuse to go and provide that assistance even if needed..

also, many people (even who carry on the job) have to buy their own uniforms (wholly or partially), their own protective equipment (including vests and plates, IFAKs, etc) …
can't even claim as tax deductions ..

their discounts are nothing more than contractors' discounts at Rona, Home Depot, Lowe's ..

They’ve stated clearly why they made the offer, which was NOT political.

I agree...most police are issued body armour and protection equipment. First responders are not only the police. It is paramedics and fire fighters that are often ambushed with no ability to defend themselves. People do not understand the risk first responders take on to help citizens. Paramedics, in particular, are currently sitting near the top of the list for most dangerous profession in our country. Our risk of being assaulted and injured is significantly higher then that of the police. They have no ability to defend ourselves and good luck getting police there when you need them. So...getting a bit of a discount when a first responder needs to use their own money to protect themselves on the job is great. It is probably the only break they will ever get...cause they certainly don’t get breaks on the job...or the opportunity to work from home during a pandemic...

Does it make it easier to ignore the blatant contradiction if you attack me personally? Because I’m not stating a position of my own, merely that this itself is not a-political like was claimed.


Once again its telling that those who benefited from such a discount dont see it as a political statement. Fudd by any other name
