You know, ethics of lion hunting aside, I think I would have passed on that first shot. From the camera angle there was too much scrub in front of him, and I doubt the shooter could have seen the bottom half of him from where he was standing. Not to mention the fact that the lion started to quarter away and walked maybe 3 steps in the second before the trigger was pulled. That was totally a shot through the gut, and a responsible guide would have been on him for a follow up as soon as that cat stood up.
I wonder what happened in between the first shot and the cut to where they were running in. In any case, they should not have been running in to make their follow up shots. They attracted far too much attention to themselves that way, let alone the fact that it's stupid to run with guns.
