Hi guys, fairly new to this group. Just had a question about reloading my 7mm08 with 140 nosler bt, under h4350 at 48 grains. Seating 2.800, I've been noticing indents below the tips. I've ventured away from these bullets now, unfortunately. They were very accurate , and at 2850fps I was happy with them, but the indents didn't sit well with me.

Has anyone noticed this before on bullets ? Maybe too much compressed ? Thanks !

I think I know what you mean and the problem is with the seating stem. I had the same issue when seating .30-30 bullets, and my fix was to dremel away a bit metal where it contacts the bullet so there was more even contact. You could also try picking up a different seating die.

Another option is to put a small wad of paper in the nose of the seating stem so all of the pressure is exerted only on the bullet tip. The advantage is that the fix is not permanent, and can be removed if it adversely affects other bullet styles. That said, if the bullet displayed very good accuracy despite the indents, it would seem that the damage wasn't very important to the bullet's performance. Its generally conceded that bullet nose damage affects accuracy far less than damage to the heal of the bullet. I do understand though that bullet damage from the loading process is undesirable, and should be avoided if possible, but we should be more concerned with results than with ascetics.

111% load density with that H4350 load

Switching to RL17, Win 760, H414, IMR 4895, RL15, CFE223, Ramshot BigGame, H4895, Win748, IMR 3031, IMR 4320 will all give a lower load density, and velocity capability that equals or exceeds H4350

I use almost the same load (49 gr. h4350 with140gr accubond or bt.) I get 2935fps that is max for me and I have no issues with what your talking about, I think it is your seating stem

A slight ring, but not an actually dent.. the tips are actually crushing. No loss of accuracy though. My load with the 140 sierra sbt is 50 gr, 2945fps with 5 es and .5 inch groups. No issue on bullet dent.. so I think the nosler bt must constructed softer possibly?
